On low-angle stuff like Buttermilk, they are just as good.  But like TT said, as slope, speed, and surface firmness increase, they can't compete.  Literally, which is why nobody races SL or GS in softboots at higher levels.  Youth racing, sure.

Jack, I was talking overall, I agree there are different conditions, where everyone is just as good (To the best of their ability)

  2. Don't know what happened (and I'm sure a story will come out), but I have to say, a lot of people were looking for this guy, a lot of time was spent, and we should all be pretty happy that ski towns pull together, even for people they don't know.

  3. I’m currently letting him go off with his friends, on his heel side adventures, so I don’t think there is pressure there :)

my post was was governed by interest on teaching methods, not frustration, at all.  I’m riding for the first time, in years, I can’t be having more fun.

  4. My point was, if they don't want you to help ("I've got it, I'm a pro"), has anyone found ways to make it fun, so they want to progress?

He can get up and down the mountain, so I want him to take the next step.

  5. Looking for tips on how to trick kids, I mean teach kids, that are your own....

I have an 8 year old, that says he is a pro, and doesn't want help.  Has great balance, and heal side control, but I can't talk him into even attempting a toe side turn, and I had another Dad take him and try too, nothing.  He'll run a heal side, and then go switch, to turn the other way, all the way down the mountain.

    Any insights?

  6. Been going to powder ridge, with the kids, lately, but I think it will be hard for that mount to get going again.  I was there Sunday and it was getting pretty bare.

Where's the closest mountain to get them out, this weekend, that will be open?  (8 year old, and 5 year old?)

I'm currently in East Haddam, CT.  Are there any CT or Mass mountains, with snow?

  7. More work - and I'm getting lazy.

If I want to work, I'll rock the hardboots.  everything I've heard about the carbons is that they aren't fun, unless you are really going hard.  but I could be wrong.  And with the kids, I want to go slower.

  8. Looking for a good shape F2 Eliminator, non Carbon, but any other version would be fine.  Mine is about to give up the goose.

Focusing on softies, this year, easier to teach the 8 and 5 year old, rockin softies.

    Thanks,

    Mike
