Michael_A Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Hello, I'm setting up my new BX board (I know, I have to wait 8 months until I can use it) and noticed the binding inserts are set about 5-6cm back from the center of the effective edge. I thought this might be a bit much, but when I strapped in, the foward lean of my boots and 55/48 binding angles seemed to place my weight squarely back over the center of the board, or even an inch or so in front. What kind of setbacks do you all use, and is the goal to get your weight over the center of the board when you're in a balanced stance? Thanks in advance, Michael Quote
Chris Houghton Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Agreed, the manufaturer has an idea of where he wants the rider's weight, so he sets the inserts according to that concept. We sometimes have other ideas, like wanting to pressure the nose more, or riding the tail, but that's something you cannot universally plan across all boards - it really is dependent on the individual characteristics of each stick. So - you need to ride it first, then see. Like you said - lots of time to think about it. Quote
surfinsmiley Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 My BX board has a 40mm set back which I thought might be a bit much but after riding it at all different settings the "sweetspot" seems to be right where the manufacturer marked it. Quote
Mike T Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I've messed around with setbacks on all of my decks at one time or another. On my Doneks I ride centered on the inserts which is also centered on the sidecut, and on my Coilers I ride centered on the inserts which is set back. They both "feel right". If I go forward on the Coilers, the tail feels too dead. I did start using a little setback on my Axis this season for powder, but it finishes carved turns in a rather hasty manner this way. Quote
