barryj
Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm a UPM guy and just a newbie with all this new age Allflex/Vist insert pattern stuff .....but from what I've seen and been told the insert pattern choice -ASL/narrow/148mm OR AGL/Wide/164mm, has nothing to do with rider size or weight....but is solely based on intended board width. I'm 220 lbs. and will ride a ASL narrow insert pattern (Sinline) Plate because my board is 18.5 at the waist. If I'm incorrect some new aged Plate wizard please school me.......... Sidebar: WTF! why do we still call it a/the "Allflex/Vist" Plate? UPM was an insert pattern. Allflex/Vist are Brands! It's confusing! With all the other companies (and now Alpine Board Brands) offering these New Plates we will need to start calling it the: Allflex/Vist/Ironrock/Sinline/Virus/Kessler/Apex, etc, etc....Plate! Jack M
The narrow pattern is generally intended for lighter weight riders, as the narrower plates are softer. Allflex and Vist invented their insert patterns, so that's what they're called. I don't see a problem. IIRC, UPM was invented collaboratively by Fin Doyle and Sean Martin. I think it was based on the original Apex pattern.
barryj
Thanks for the info Jack, I would also imagine there are a fair number of Big guys riding narrow boards/ASL plates also by preference.... I guess that's the anomaly in this. For me I don't want to be stuck riding/buying 18.5 w boards or narrower JUST because I bought a ASL "Allflex" pattern. So I just changed my order with Jasper at Sinline to AGL/wide pattern Plate. Now I need Another board for new tech Sinline Vision AGL Plate to attach to! Aw..... fun headaches! Jack M
Yeah you don't want a narrow one. All the stock "men's" SL boards come with the wide pattern. I have a F2 Proto 163 I could part with... 16 hours ago, barryj said: I would also imagine there are a fair number of Big guys riding narrow boards/ASL plates also by preference I'd be very surprised if there were any.
