Pansersoldat Posted June 14 Report Posted June 14 (edited) so i am pulling the trigger on some Deeluxe indy boots another person on this forum offered to me and i was wondering about the interchangeability of parts for AF series boots and the older indy boots. the things im mainly looking to swap is: some or all the rachet straps for buckles the, maybe change out the tongue. brand new liner, need recommendation between intuition liners and deluxe HB thermoflex liners, possibly new lean mechanism or switching to bts system. things that are going to be switched out no matter what are boot soles and liner. my main question is which of these changes are possible needed or what on this list am i missing? also second question that's just to see if anyone knows, how would i go about finding out what model year they are EDIT: I have already emailed deeluxe and yyzcanuk to ask questions about this and have heard no response as of yet. Aracan Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 I owned a pair of Indys back in the day. The tongues are definitely interchangeable. I cannot vouch for the buckles, but I would bet actual money that they are. Especially given that the lower two buckles also had the cable part on the inside. My Indys came with the so-called "Raichle Accelerator Box", with springs so stiff as to be practically useless for my 148 lb. self. I would recommend the DGSS over the BTS, as making more sense construction-wise (the BTS had some built-in binding). Cannot help you with the model year. I bought my orange ones new in or around 2002, if memory serves. I hope you are a big guy, because those were some really, really stiff boots. Quote

But I bought a new tongue just in case Quote
Pansersoldat Posted November 12 Author Report Posted November 12 If decide to keep on snowboarding in tandem with skiing I will find a way to convert my indy to af700 style buckles from what I've seen the cuff ones are basically plug and play Quote
Aracan Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 I hope that does not mean that you intend to use the Indys for skiing, because don't. That said, the ratchet-style buckles are not half as bad as the rep they sometimes get. If they are in working order, I wouldn't go to the hassle and expense of switching. Quote

I have a dedicated ski setup with ski boots and 2 pairs of skis. That said the ratchets I have are currently ok there are some teeth slipping but when I crank it down to the tightness and feel I want there fine. I'm just thinking through on the ankle wire breaks what my options are because I would buy a 1to 1 replace ment but the place where I got my other deeluxe boot parts from no longer stock a bunch of the original parts and the closest replacement without going into to much modification of the boot is using the af 700 parts. Aracan Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 Ah, glad to hear that. As stated, the buckles should fit. IIRC the originals are riveted, so you will have to drill them out before you can screw in the replacement. Quote

I admire your Make it Work! attitude but personally I hated the old Indy buckle straps. From the way they were made/positioned I found the buckles really difficult to get leverage on them when you needed to crank them down. The newer larger buckles are Much Easier to use! I'd just pony up for a used newer model boot - as of this post there's 5 pairs of boots up for sale on the 1st page of the classifieds right here! Newer used can't be much more $$ than all the parts + shipping your looking at now. Quote
