Intro to Skateboarding Resources

Dear All and Sundry,

 

My son just got a board and it looks fun enough that I'm thinking about getting my first board since 1979.

 

I'm looking for websites that could help a svelte 200lb, middle age guy, find the right board. All I want to do is keep the wheels on the ground and turn, turn ,turn.

There was a great video that was maybe on the old Bomber site of a kid on a fish shaped board freeriding down a city street that looked like a blast.

What's the modern equivalent of the old Silverfish forums? I learned a lot on there. 

I've had a Loaded Vanguard, Roe Racing Triton, and a no-name pintail with Waterborne Surf Adapters. I'm loving the Waterborne and am trying them on a shorter pintail this summer. I might also try them on my old vintage 80's Skull Skates board for a laugh. 

All flatland (where I live!) and low speeds for me, so the super-turny Waterborne seems to be just what I wanted.

Do some googling for “long distance pump” or LDP, that’s probably what you want. You can spend a lot if you like on fancy trucks but mine works pretty good with a Bennett front truck, a Tracker rear and some wedges.
