just remembered your last years new board porn … the 194 t4 contra … how did that ride?

Rides great of course!  Everything you would expect from a Coiler, only bigger.  The 194 was the board of choice for my final runs when the resort announced the closure in March (with three hours notice).  Hard on the legs for sure, cumbersome at slow speeds, but a totally exhilarating ride!

thank you for your feed back … went to the board shop today and looked at that never summer camber

and the kid at the shop really liked it, but I wonder how it would do on icy groomers. it probably does ok

on soft snow... I got a 184 pr and it is fun for a thrill, but not fun to ride all day...

I used to ride that board's spiritual predecessor (the Cobra) and have a Swift right now. Most NS boards ride fairly similar (with the East and the Big gun being outliers). They're superb for powder and tight trees. They also are very well made, damp and somewhat heavy. They can handle icy groomers but it's not what they're good at. There's a run in Copper that I cannot turn on without sliding out on my NS. My Alloy OTOH has no problems on it.

All this to say that I like my NS boards BUT they do have some drawbacks. Mainly the sidecut is weird. It's short-wide-short meaning you get turning only when you engage the nose or the tail. It works for some but it makes for a very nervous board on groomers. Before you commit to buy I would recommend trying it out. Also try boards with a wide-short-wide sidecut (like Arbor or some Capita boards) because those seem to do much better on groomers. My Arbor Cosa Nostra has excellent float and can turn much more predictably.

And speaking of new boards... Here's the Arbor (new for me this year) and the Swift...

And I finally got the Contra on snow! Wow! I only did one run but oh my gosh, that thing feels amazing. Truly a cross between a HB and SB board. Can't wait to try it out on some better snow!

Finally not a new board but definitely new (and destructive) for this year...

I liked riding my Contra AT better with flexy hardboots and bindings (Raichle 413's and Carve RS). With my regular carving set-up (Northwaves and TD3 SW) it was easy to overpower the board. It's an easy rider for sure. It will be my ride of choice for the first day on the hill. Nice and turny for the limited terrain and crowds.

Beautiful boards!

But the 140 eff edge seems a little exaggerated ..... more like 120cm

Mark made this for himself, but his wife said he couldn't keep it. So, at great personal sacrifice I offered to take it off his hands...you know, to save a marriage. :ices_ange

It's a Thirst PCjv (the baby powder carver), 169 length, 22.5cm waist with a powder nose. The topsheet is Sapele with Maple & Teak inlay and I think that's Walnut in the tail. Hand flexing it feels softer than my carving sticks, which is good. It's supposed to be a good carver on the groomers too. I've never ridden a split tail before, but they sure look sexy.

Oh, and if Mario's wife asks, I'm just holding it for a friend.
