cbrkid1981
Anyone have any experience with one of these? I'm intrigued to see what this little board can do. Thanks, Duffy
charliechocolate
I sprang for the 168 carbon version of the Spectre and I don't know how exactly it compares to the non-carbon version but I would image they're pretty similar. The best thing about it is that it's very light and nimble. That, combined with relatively low angles due to the ~24 cm width make for a comfortable ride. I have taken it out on a couple of pow days and it has done very well in deepish snow and tight trees. It floats very similar to a Dynastar 3600 in that I couldn't sink it. Performance on the groom isn't quite like that of a SL board but it's not too shabby, either. It holds an edge well even on hardpack-bordering-on-ice but the short turn radius limits your speed on open terrain. Although, that's a plus on steep pitches and my local hill which often gets very crowded. The modest pop coming out of the turns is pretty nice too, it just takes a little focus into loading the tail right. It sure feels a lot like the Nidecker Proto with improvements made on float and stiffness. I just wish it had VSR for the times when I want to draw out the turns. Edited to add that this an all-mountain board rather than a carve-specific board and so maybe it should be moved to the right forum. pow4ever
FWIW and wonder how Spectre compare to Ultralight/Megalight. I saw Nidecker Ultralight in action(F2/plate binding/hardboot) and it seems to carve well in both groom and handle resort powder/tree with ease. Megalight should be about the same (but stiffer for the heavier rider).
BlueB
It's narrower, so more suited for h/boots.
