lonbordin
Well... been at Flagstaff for the last 6 days. Snowbowl is an interesting mountain. It's amazing the difference in conditions on the mountain to the nearby town of Flagstaff. Flagstaff is so warm and pleasant with great hiking all around. Grand Canyon is super close and fantastic. Snowbowl is living in the pre-climate change era when it comes to snowmaking. They have plenty of low temps but don't have near enough guns to make the snow they need... so they (and the locals) keep hoping for the natural snow that's not coming. Due to living in Southern Indiana I'm intimately familiar with living on a fringe snow sport zone. Right now there's essentially three top to bottom runs open... Hart Prairie, Route 66, Logjam (via Midway Catwalk), and Agassiz (Via upper/lower ridge). There are a LOT of straight-liners on Logjam and Agassiz you really have to be aware of what's behind you. The snow isn't deep across the hill (27") at last report but the desert consistency is superb. The base elevation of 9,200 (lift served 11,500) takes this flatlanders breath away. I've been having a blast and really working on my form and setup on Hart Prairie. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the quality of service at https://www.humphreysummitski.com/boot-fitters-1/ . Their bootfitting and shop services have been top notch. I've heard from the locals and the employees that tomorrow (the 26th) is going to be huge as the resort is predicting 4,000 visitors. Apparently 2,500 is a BIG day. I think I'll ride the shuttle up before open and ride the first hour. Rode with R. Flagg today... always great to ride with another alpine enthusiast.
lonbordin
Went this morning 9-11:30. Big crowds did not materialize, yay! Just a dusting of new snow far less than they hoped. Meet two guys from Tempe riding hardboot equipment from 20+ years ago. They wanted tips and I was as helpful as I could be but their setups... we'll they needed work. They we able to get down the slope quite well so kudos to them... not as much carving but Burton boards with 22 meter radius aren't going to come around so easily. Their vintage gear was in incredible shape. Apparently they bought it from someone who got to old for the carving game. Maybe someday I'll sample that Tempe wave pool they were talking about. Sounds like fun.

I spent the morning on the Agassiz side of the mountain, did the majority of runs on Belle. I should've know we'd get 7" as @nitro had a new board he wanted to try out. Nature can be such a troll sometimes. I was trying a different setup on my second board for the last two runs... I did NOT like it. Snowbowl is saying 13" of new by tomorrow morning... I need to make some binding adjustments!
lonbordin
Snowbowl is reporting 12" in last 24 hours with their latest update... Weather is saying 1-4 more for Flag before midnight. Do any of the locals know if Snowbowl grooms after a dump like this? I've removed all accoutrements and put my bindings as far back as they can go in anticipation. nitro
Holly blizzard! 2 hours ago, lonbordin said: I saw @nitro on the Prairie on my last trip up. Hope it wasnt when I ate shit after my fourth turn on the new beast! I made it up around 11-11:30 ,people traffic was heavy & chair was painfully slow at HP . I made maybe 3 runs over there. moved on over to the bowl for a couple more runs. Blasted my quads in the chop. Yeah, Im a little out of shape for this 24cm wide Donek monster . I had to stop once to fuss with some adjustments as well. Thought I caught glimpse of a Prior over head on the HP chair, maybe you? All this new snow will crowd the hill with even more locals & straight liners so watch your back! I will be up for some more tomorrow& I will hang around GCC for the most part. Meet around 10ish or earlier? 7 minutes ago, lonbordin said: Do any of the locals know if Snowbowl grooms after a dump like this? Yes they will groom most trails over night to preserve base, some runs like lava, volcano, casino& black jack will not get groomed

maxlean
Hi guys, Because of meeting lonbordin, I'm now back in this forum! Yeah! Ok, who is Nitro? Are you Bill or Scott? I'm going up tomorrow EARLY to try first chair Agassiz for Volcano (if it's not bumped). Otherwise I'll head down to Southern Bell for laps. Cheers, Robert
