A stance too narrow will be marked by near constant high frequency muscle contractions in both legs. This will lead to a burn similar to when the stance is too wide, but will most likely be bilateral, rather than just the front quad.
Given your footbed-fiddling pain reduction, I'll direct you again to the foot structure diagnostics.
