howdy all
well, wed. nov. 26 dumped 5 inches here in town then turkey day and friday
was a big melt down and melted all the snow off my roof. temps were in the
mid 40's. then got really cold again. heard from people who hiked the big
recently all said the same thing that it was hard packed and very icy.
today snowed lightly all day and piled up to a few inches of very light fluffy
stuff. should be a little warmer tomorrow and a little more on saturday.
i'm hoping it will be good groomers on the frontside, but at least the backside
should be good. so we'll see what happens on opening day...

opening day!!! yeah! not the best conditions, but it was fun to be on snow
again. low clouds in the valley and super high overcast in the morning then
starts to snow around 11am and gets foggy. snow was wet and gets packed
down icy slick in the high traffic areas. carvable and rode the hardboots and
stayed on the groomers. still thin overall and needs at least three feet plus.
hardboots was a good call as the off groom did not look too safe with many
gremlins sticking out. went to lunch at 1pm and it started to icy rain so called
it. i was slightly soaked and felt cold. i also caught a front edge and went down
hard, i'll feel it tomorrow... oh yeah! only backside open... crazy crowds!!!...
new flower point lift not good for carving. forcast is a warm up on thursday...
rode the fp157 from 9 till 1...

it was a nice quiet morning, all the weekend warriors gone and mostly the
hardcore core was here. no lift line wait on the backside, the new lift really
spreads um out. groomer conditions in the morning was really good then
gets a little chewed up. frontside still closed which is fine with me cause i'm
getting beat-up with my out of shape body, my lower right rib still hurts.
high thin overcast with good vis and a little wind from the south. temps was
just right and compfy and everyone in an easy going mood. it was a good day.

like yesterday it was nice compfy temps. forcast was rain/snow about 11am,
but it was nice all day. with no new snow groomers are getting buffed out
smooth. it's like early spring conditions, wet icy groomers that was good
in the early morning. again high overcast and flat light, but still good
vis. not many people and no lift lines and still only the backside open.
my body still hurts and it'll be awhile before i get into shape.

worked wed., thur., fri. and it was very warm here in town and a huge melt down
up on the big. heard friday that it was spring time soft. today i was debating
if i should go up, i did and i'm glad i went. one inch over hardpacked ice.
started the morning with icy rain and light fog down low then up to the backside
and it was nice as the temps cooled down just below freezing and kept things dry.
it was hard to get an edge in on the very hardpacked ice, but the inch of snow
really helped and made it fun. just making laps and carve here and there and
get the legs into shape for the good days to come. stills needs alot snow to get
it where it needs to be. forcast is a little cool down... today 12-13-14...

a little overcast in the early morning then the sun comes out and it was a nice
quiet, but cold day. cooler temps kept things dry and made the snow better.
silvertip and goathaunt was not groomed. groomers was icy and granular and the
skied off stuff was polished ice in spots. it wasn't the best conditions as the
granular snow gives way and the hardpack polished ice doesn't hold an edge.

way better, drier chalky groomed good, but still that polished ice. hardly anyone
up so stayed good all day and i stayed all day. pushed it kinda hard and wasn't
too beat-up. still only the backside.

everybody out. high overcast and good vis, soft groomers with some snow on top.

Aaron, did you get my message about your boots? Change of plans for Kelly and I - we won't be making it to the Fish for Xmas Day, I'm heading to Targhee instead. Drop me a line at alli.in.calgary at gmail, and let me know if you want me to pack them up and get them to you.

worked yesterday and big mtn reported 12in., but in town it was rain, everybody said

that the snow was really heavy. it was warm in the afternoon, last night a little cooler

and so the snow was kinda firm groomers, firmer than i thought and just right for carving.

well, all the snow making snow never got groomed down and has set-up with warm temps

and early season conditions makes for a very uneven surface, alot of dips and rollers.

the front side opened yesterday and today was my first time on chair 2. the high traffic

made it bumpy fast. the sun came out around 2pm so i stayed till 4pm just to enjoy the day.

crusing around and carving here and there. tomorrow should be better then wenesday

night it supposed to dump just in time for christmas.

Thinking we made the right call heading to Targhee for Xmas - not quite so crowded and the coverage sounds a lot better. Bummed that I will miss you lovely people, but I'll be there for WTF end of Jan. Looking forward to it, and hoping to poach an extra day this time as I have some leftover vacation to use.

Merry Xmas all!

started the early morning with some blue skies, but as the mountain opened it got

cloudy and foggy on top. very firm good groomers and as the day went on and

got alittle chewed up it got better. lift lines wasn't too bad and temps was comfy.

still lots of rocks and tops of little pine trees sticking out. today was a good day

of carving so stayed till closing. forcast is more snow and a white christmas.

merry christmas everyone. well, santa came a day early and yesterday dumped

9 inches of creamy pow on the big and 5 inches here in town. it was wet and heavy,

but today cooler temps and some wind dried the snow. it was a beautiful sunny

morning and a little chilly then gets alittle foggy by noontime. groomers was good,

but rode the softies cause the basin opens today. it was around 11:30 when the

basin opened and i did a greys golf course run and it was good soft pow. did some

flower point runs and it was soft. coverage is getting better, but the carving runs

still have the snow making humpback whales, very annoying! today was fun just

crusing around on the softies.

forcast for today was snow all day and it snowed all day, woohoo!... big mtn reported

2 inches early in the morning and i knew the forcast was good so brought the softies

and took it easy. early morning there was a few inches of soft snow with firm groomers

underneath then as the day progressed it got better. as the snow got mixed in with the

the groomers the scraping stopped and the snow kept falling. just kept pushing piles

of soft snow around. the off groom tree riding was knee deep in spots, there was still

plenty of good pow at the end of the day. lighting was flat all day and foggy at times.

i wasn't expecting much with the crazy holiday crowds, but it wasn't so bad. almost got

last chair, third to the last, it was a fun day...

brutal super high winds and chill and a bluebird day. rode with the neice and nephews.

all the snow got blasted into the sky and exposed the icy hardpack. the powdered snow

got deposited here and there. the cold temps really dried the snow and the wind blew it

around. the backside was not as windy and alittle more compfy, but still very cold. it was

in the minus degrees all day and the wind chill was very cold. groomers looked good in

spots, but mostly icy hardpack on the frontside and the backside groomers was better.

the mountain is getting beat-up with the high winds and cold temps, we need more snow

and normal temps to heal the damage. if not windy i'll go tomorrow...

took my time this morning, waiting for things to warm up, but the bluebird skies and

no wind beckoned me so got on snow after 10am. the below zero temps makes for

great squeaky, grippy groomers and second day pressing of sunday 7 inches made

a great carving day. stayed on chair 2 all day cause it was warmer and the snow was

better. the snow making piles are still there and doesn't hold the edge very well, but

the natural snow is very good. the groomers are firm and only gets lightly skied off so

it was great all day.

shoveled 3 inches last night about 4pm so driveway is good and getting ready for

snowmageddon. left this morning at 8am and there was about 6 inches. snowed

hard all day and it was EPIC!!!... big mtn reported 8 inches and it was really good

powder, not too wet, not to dry, but just right. by opening bell there was at least a

foot of the best quality snow. my first run down toni matt was bottomless smooth,

it was like surfing, soft smooth and fast. we haven't had a powder day this good

in a long time. got home and there was 15 inches in the driveway... shovel, shovel...

what a let-down, big mtn reported 5 inches new overnight, but it warmed-up last night

and it was wet and heavy and wet concrete in the high traffic areas. super high overcast

and you could see glacier park, but not the top of the peaks. still some pow, but very heavy.

we are on the edge of the pacific front and arctic front and we should cool down on friday.

groomers should get good on friday and hopefully saturday. today was warm...

better this morning so up to the big. foggy from the get go and down to the village and

very humid with rime build-up in the early morning. groomers was good on ed's so stayed

there all day. went to the summit to take my break at 11:30 and it was one chair vis at

the top. back down to chair 2 and it started to snow and dumped hard at times. cooled

down a bit and no more rime. got chewed up and bumpy, kinda funky snow today...

don't know why it was a slow sunday at work, it's always busy. they cut me loose

so up to the big. got on snow at 1pm and it was a bit bumped-up and foggy up high.

the groomers are not in the best shape, it has weird bumps and angles from the

snowmaking mounds and overall grooming has been spotty. so far it has been very

disappointing to me, maybe it's just the weather patterns, even snow quality has

been bad. hope things get better... took a toe side header on my 2nd to last run...
