tracer-vp
I'm looking for a super stiff "soft boot". For years I rode the Burton Driver and Driver x boot and loved them but the last few versions have been anything but stiff. Last season I bought the 12/13 driver x and although stiffer than the previous few years they are still not nearly as stiff as the older ones. Does anyone have a suggestion for a soft boot that will be stiffer than the current Driver x boot? I've been lucky enough to find New older ones on ebay but I haven't had much luck finding them lately.

Waboarder
Try Solomon Malamutes, i've been riding them for years, as far as I know, the stiffest softboot available.
tracer-vp
I tried the 2012 or 13 Malamutes and they were not as stiff as the older driver's. The shop told me that like Burton the Solomon's have gotten softer in recent years. I'll have to find some 2014's and see how they feel. Thanks. lonbordin
Curious... is there a stifness rating for soft boots? I've never heard of one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk

FWIW, 'Mini Shred', Burton's Boot Product Manager, has said the Driver X has been re-engineered to be a lot stiffer than the past few years' versions. You might want to try on a pair of the '14 Driver X boots (I currently ride 'em) to see if they work for you. <img src="http://i44.tinypic.com/14c9mvq.jpg" border="0" alt="Scott Anfang, Vail, CO."> FWIW. Hope you find what you seek... B-
NSSage
Deeluxe vicious. Also Ride makes a pretty stiff boot (at least I thought it was stiff) I forget which one it was though, whatever was the stiffest in their lineup. Very comfortable right out of the box but I've had 6 pair fail on me in the last two seasons. I'm 150LBS, soft boot rider all the way and they fall apart where the BOA system meets the fabric. I ride pretty hard but 25 days on a pair of boots is sad. They warrantied it over and over, I had two pair that I swapped out so I always had a new pair warrantied and waiting. Sold the last pair on ebay recently, Salomon Malamute's are just about broken after 10+ days this season, hopefully they last.

tracer-vp
I forgot to mention that I'm a full time ski patroller and I get in close to 100 days a season. A guy that I work with had the Ride Insano last season and he had a few issues with them. Twice they had to be sent back because of separation issues. Also the Insano has a very soft bottom that wears completely bald in no time. That's not good for someone who has to do a lot of walking on the east coast hard pack. I haven't tried on the 2014 Driver-x but they look almost identical to the 13's. Last season the rep told me that the boot had been significantly stiffened so I gave them a try. They were ok at first but after only a few days they were mush. This is one of the older super stiff versions of the driver-x. These things were hard to flex at all when new but break in to a perfect level. Edited December 29, 2013 by tracer-vp

You're correct about the soul on them as well. Ranking right up there with the worst sole for traction on the toes and while it didn't wear much on me, I can see how the sole would wear if you walked in them enough. Made of marshmallow foam that was never great for traction. That said, they're a great boot if you can get them to hold up. Excellent fit, light, easy in and out, warm, no issues using them with my splitboard once they were broken in. Shoe goo would have fixed all but two of the pair. Most came apart in the same place but two pair came apart in a place that couldn't be fixed.
