Hi all I have been carving intermittently for many years, My hill is MsM but would be interested in joining on a week night and get a refresher on Technics. What night are you folks out?

Also looking to upgrade my old Santa Cruz to a nice race board between 175 and 185 for a 205lb rider.

Peter V

I found a new to me board, after way to many years on my old Santa Cruz race board I now have a Prior WCR 181. I just picked it up today and can't wait to try it. Maybe this Sunday at MsM.

Hey Ottawans! I've lost all my connections from when working in a ski shop for years so am looking for a tech/shop that I can trust with a stone grind. I'm thinking Shaver Sports up at Fortune as I've heard good things by full-time ski patrollers. Any other experiences suggestions?

Kunstadt Glebe has been good to me. I think my favorite tech Eric has moved on, but their base grind and edges were always well done :)

T&L not so much, they always seem to misplace my equipment.

The only local place that I have been happy with is that ski store in the Tremblant old village....Lachance. It's right at the four way stop and they will do sameday if you drop off early in the AM or overnight if you are staying.

They asked about desired structure pattern and both edge angles. I used them at least 4 years ago and it may have been tech dependent but they seemed to know their stuff.

I was very very happy.

No happiness here with any T&L or Kundstadt in Ottawa. I have heard really good things about Shaver for boot fitting....no experience with tuning though.

I was going to ride Saturday, but if a few of you are out Sunday morning I'll do that instead :) MSM you say?

Yeah Sunday! Ian - want to car-pool? Also toying with the idea of heading to Cascade tomorrow (Thursday) after lunch for a few hours. Anyone interested? Will be my first run of the year, so be prepared for a good laugh.

Yes that is the board, I drove to Montreal last night. I'll try it on Sunday at MsM. It would be great to see some more carvers at MsM.

sweet looking board and good deal if so!!

I have free pass for MSM before Dec20th. I might try and get up Sunday

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm really reluctant to get this done as I know there are some real hack techs. I've been hand-tuning my boards/skis for 15 years now and it's one thing to mess up a tune (I have seen some funny mishaps working in the industry over the years though) but a base/stone grind is a whole other ball game although it does depend on the person operating the machine and the machine itself. Anywho, keep the suggestions coming especially specific to base grind experiences. Hope to get out soon!

Instead of worrying about the possibility of mishap, what about focusing on the desired outcome? Put yourself mentally in the moment when you're receiving the perfect grind/tune, and it will happen. Mind matters!

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry for the late response, Chris, but no. I find it hard to believe I've only been out on snow twice so far, but life has been a little off the hook.

Is anyone else riding Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday this week? I'm off all three days :)

Cheers!
