srodeo
Does anyone know what these bindings are? And how they are? I've been told these are sno pro bindings. Are they ok paired up with burton factory prime? Thanks
tufty
Snowpro twin. OK as these things go, but weedy bales.
Puddy Tat
My 80lb daughter is using pretty much that exact set-up on a burton FP3.5. I don't know how well the plastic of the varicants will hold up to higher weight or aggressive technique. Dave
srodeo
So not the best set up for someone heavier? Pretty weak binding?
Puddy Tat
The board would be ok. Can't say on the binding. Most modern bindings are using 6mm diameter bales (the metal parts that hold down your heel and toe). Older models used 5mm bales, which were more laterally flexy, but also prone to fatigue induced failures due to continual flexing. Plastic on bindings is also subject to eventual stress and UV related failures, especially when ridden by larger more agressive riders. From a use standpoint my daughter did find that she kept knocking the heel bales of the bindings down when she would put her boot into the binding. Now she reaches down and holds it up as she puts her boot in, but then again she's 10 and super flexible. I can barely touch my toes so I use step-ins :-). On the varicants. If this is your board you can take them off and take a look at them. The plastic is a fairly thin shell, and also subject to UV and fatigue degradation. I have only ever seen one other set used and they broke the first day I saw them under agressive carving riding by a 170lb rider. I don't know the age of the cants or how they were stored because he got them used with the board he had purchased, but he only put two or three days on them. Again my daughter at 80lbs doesn't really have any issues with them (other than that they might be a hair wide to use on her 18cm waisted fp 3.5). If you are lighter or just starting out, you can probably survive with that for a bit, as you don't really won't know how to pressure a board yet. But if you are a heavier or more aggressive rider consider looking around the for sales area. There are used TD1s available that will give you the adjustment of that binding and cant, that will give you a more solid interface for $100. TD2 would give you more absorption but used they tend to run about $200. If you haven't yet purchased the board (ie it's on craigslist, ebay, etc) its value here would be about $75-125 depending on condition. Varicants (new) are about $50, so $15-20 each for those, and the bindings would be about $25-40. You could try and break out the items you want. BlueB
As others said, this is an old version of Snowpros. 5mm bails as opposed to newer 6mm. Other then that, Snowpros are more adjustable then TD1, by changing the lift/cant shims under toe/heel pieces, but screws of different lengths are reguired. That elliminates the need for those unicants you've got undet them - they just add unnecessary weight/height. As for the knocking of the rear binding heel bail backwards, there is a cheap quick fix with a piece of shock cord.
AaronG
If he doesn't have another set of bindings that have a 3d pattern he will need to use the unicants to be able to use the SnowPro bindings (4 hole) on the Burton board (3 hole). You are 100% right. I didn't pay attention to the board (Burton).
