spring system for head stratos pro

So im finding that these boots are either very stiff with short lean range or in walkmode are just too loose for me and unpredictable. What upgrade options are there which are available today including sources in terms of a spring system? Confused whether only Bts work s on these or ACSS also or there are others too.

Thanks

It's either the BTS or ACSS. Or you could create your own spring system but why bother...

The ACSS was specifically designed for Head boots. The BTS was not. Mounting the ACSS involves drilling two holes, with the BTS you need to drill plus carve out some plastic in the "channel" plus at the bottom where the lower bracket goes. I also went further and softened the flex by cutting out some of the inner plastic and changed out the tongues for the orange ones.

I've been riding with the BTS (yellow springs) for about 4 years and it's light years better than the original spring mechanism, it really softened the flex making the HSPs a good all around carving boot, but I there are a few minuses.

First of all, it sticks out like 2 inches, my pants got torn as they got caught on the springs. The flex isn't entirely as "fluid" as I'd like, I have this feeling that the angle pivot provided by the BTS doesn't allow the boot to perform really well. From what I've heard the ACSS completely eliminates that, as well as being a more streamline assembly. What else, ah this might have been my mistake, but over time the two mounting pins start to move out of the holes, you have to hammer them back in every couple of days.

Now that I decided to change my riding setup, I want to stiffen up my boots, so I decided to try it with the ACSS system with stiffer springs. Should get it next week, it's going to be interesting comparing the two.

Benttech, would you mind sharing where you got ACCS from?

Some of your comments regarding pins moving I have not heard before. Could it be that the holes you drilled were not the proper size? I just recently installed the BTS with yellow springs and I hope I don't have to go through that. Also, I didn't have to carve anything out of the channel to get the BTS to fit (just drill the holes), but perhaps different year model boots will be slightly different here.

JW, there are many threads about modifying Head boots and installing the BTS. Here are a few that have helped me:

great thanks for links for some reason i only found one of those threads myself. I just did the wings mod, got a little cut happy because i was using a dremel cutting disk which made it cut really quick but less range of motion and on one boot resulted in a bit of hole showing on side, lol guess i wont be selling them. but wow what a difference in foward flex its like a new boot even without the hole/slit in back. Now just looking for a source that actually has either system in stock as walk mode is REALLY loose now.

I really liked the feeling of riding in walk mode, but it was really too loose and a bit unpredictable. (And some claim it's unsafe, but I'm not sure.)

I was hoping that the BTS would give me the flexibility somewhere between walk mode and ride mode, and for me that's exactly what it did. When I installed the BTS, the boot was not as loose as walk mode, but had more travel than what ride mode had, and the flex was more constant. Plus, with the spring system, you can adjust it to be as "tight" or "loose" as you like. Although for drastic changes you may need to swap out springs: yellow are softest, but there's also blue and red, which are stiffer.

Btw, it appears that Bomber does have the BTS kits in stock (although they appear to be out of the long yellow springs):

If you're ordering you'll also need 4 long pins for Deeluxe boots:

I got it from the guy that produces the ACSS for Raichle/Deeluxe boots. I live in Europe though.

I drilled the right size holes but used bolts with the heads cut off instead of the pins. I don't know if thats the cause or maybe because I flex my boots a lot when riding, but it's not a big deal really. In the channel I'm surprised you didn't have to at least sand some of the plastic out of the way. But I'm sure you had to cut out a little notch for the lower BTS part.

Thanks. I figured as much, but was just checking.

That makes sense if you used standard bolts. The Deeluxe pins are knurled at one end, which keeps them in place.

No cutting or sanding on my boots. It fit perfectly. I (well, I had help as I'm all thumbs when it comes to tools) just drilled the holes for the upper pins and enlarged the holes for the lower pins to fit the wider Deeluxe long pins. If you drilled the holes too close to the back of the channel, then it's possible there was not enough room for the BTS. I didn't have any problems fitting the BTS width-wise. The channel was just wide enough.
