Snowest
So I caught an edge and had a fast introduction to some hardpack... I tend to keep my arms inward because broken wrists interfere with my job, but now i have a broken rib. I figure I trapped my hand between my chest and the snow causing a pressure point. Where do you guys keep your hands/arms when riding?
philw
Ouch - sounds like you were unlucky. It's fairly rare to fall on your face once you've sussed it - it's more common (in my experience at least) to slide in on your hips, or to rag doll. I try to keep my hands pretty much "gunslinger", but there are different styles. I'm not sure that it will help if you crash that way though. Marc H
Go watch Jackass (no insult implied) as how to fall. It's a roll of the dice. Id rather have a cracked rib any day. Got surgery once already on my shoulder because of a nasty crash when boarding.
dingbat
I keep one hand way the hell up in the air. That way I'm sure not to land on it. The other is on the snow, feeling for things that might trip me up. Glad it was just a rib. They're not structural, just window dressing.;)

Snowest
Happened chrstmas eve... Pretty pathetic fall. First run of the day, I hadn't even gotten up to speed. Equivalent of just standing there and having my feet pulled out from under me. It didn't really bother me till later that night. Gonna stick to skiing for a few weeks till it heals a little more. Bryan- Ya still interested in the cants.. Been working some crazy hours though so I'm not sure when I'll be able to make it up there. I'm interested in a board of yours to if your willing to part with it :D

Where do you guys keep your hands/arms when riding? The same thing happened to me while going at speed. I caught a bit of air on a turn and landed on the toeside rail. I instinctively tucked my arms to my chest (in an "X" like a mummy) and took a heavy chest/faceplant. My ribs were sore for a week and my eyes were bruised for a while. Due to a chronically loose "rear hand" shoulder from boarding/crashing too much in life past, I tend to ride fists near the chest, so I can tuck the arms in quickly. I'd like to be a little freer with the arms for balance sake, but I've gotten adverse to having them flail around ready to be yanked off. I did get a full face helmet shortly after that incident. :D I hope you get better soon.
