AlexJ
Does anyone have any experience with getting your snowboard tuned at the Sports Authority? I got a couple of 35% off coupons and was thinking of taking my boards to be tuned. Don't know much about tuning so I thought I would ask here. monodude
Minimum wage, Nice board Brah, work sucks, I wanna ride attitude doesn't translate to much of a tune. You might get lucky... But no amount of savings will put the overground base material back on, or how much metal will you have to file to get the angles back to proper... Also I hate all temp wax bought from the lowest bidder. Most shops don't know squat about Alpine boards either. Don Feed the addiction... Steve Prokopiw
How would you go about getting the bike in your avatar tuned? If you don't want to risk teaching yourself with the massive amount of info available here,at least take it to a shop familiar with and reputable for high performance ski tuning. NMU Alpine Boarder
To be fair, there are some of us who work for "Big Box Stores" that know what alpine is and can do a good job tuning gear  But yea, in all likely-hood, I would go elsewhere... From working as a tech here in the Chicago, IL area, I quickly realized that I was one of the most knowledgeable "Big Box" techs in the area... In the grand scheme of things, I still had a lot of learning to do however... A good tune should run $50+, and for the most part, you get what you pay for... SEJ
A lot of people that do this are free agents, or at least, used to be. Tuners can be subcontractors so to speak. They are in the store after it closes, but they don't work for the store directly. Sometimes they work by the piece, not by the hour. X amount for a grind, Z amount for edge sharpening, etc, etc. Ruin one and YOU pay for it. Sometimes you can get a great grind from a big box, and once in a while, the experts can ruin one. It's just a matter of odds. I had a couple of good grinds at Any Mountain. I had a shop I TRUST do a bad one. I mean, you grind a million, you're gonna screw up a couple.
