dingbat
Can someone confirm for me which sizes share the same shell with 26.5? Also, anyone got a guess as to whether a foot that measures 26.5cm could downsize to a 25? Thanks, -Mark
Allee
I'm 26.5 and I wouldn't even contemplate trying to downsize. My boots are tight - and even after about 40 days they're still tight in the feet, althought they've packed out on the legs. Thinking about 25's makes my eyes water. Bora20
I have 26.5 feet and used 26.0 liners last year. This year I got 26.5 liners and I am a bit happier. There is no way I could go down to 25.0 without a lot of pain...that and I would never get the buckles done up.
dingbat
Thanks guys, Any chance you know what sizes share the same shell in that size? Is it 26/26.5 or 26/26.5/27 etc.?
Hilux
Same shell size 26/26.5 *are you putting much weight on your foot when measuring?
BlueB
I'm 26.5. I only "carpet carved" RC10s, in both 26.5 and 25.5. I could get into both. 25.5 was tight as a wice, but I imagine it could have worked with thermo liners instead of the Flo.

In my RTRs I switched from the Flo's to Deeluxe 141 thermos and I thought the thermos had way more volume. So much so that I had to have the shells punched out again. dingbat
Same shell size26/26.5 *are you putting much weight on your foot when measuring? No weight 26.1 to end of toe, heel hard against wall. Light weight 26.3 same as above. Equal weight between feet 26.6 same as above.
dingbat
I am pretty sure they numbers on the heels are 5.5/6/6/5 Would that mean 25.5/26/26.5 all the same shell? 27 and up the next shell size?
Hilux
I ordered the 27/27.5 shell size RC10's. In UPZ speak that equates to 7/7.5/8 As my feet measured a hair over 27.5 (left foot), a little under 27.5 for my right, Dan Yoga recommended the 27.5 with the liner marked "8". I wanted to downsize but he was adamant that these were the appropriate sizing. I'm glad I listened to him....size-wise they're perfect, and the more and more I wear them they just get better as the Flo liner molds. Hope that helps. dingbat
With or without shell modification? Do you mean would a 25 work with or without shell mod.? I'd be up for anything so long as I wasn't punching/grinding to the point it weakened the boot. I weigh 200+lbs and if I injure myself I may be out a job. Beckmann AG
One can usually get an additional 5-8mm of shell length without too much difficulty or loss of shell integrity. The shape of your foot, toe configuration, and heel contour, would determine whether or not it would be a good idea for your situation. Rule of thumb: If you hit plastic with the bare foot, punch, then grind. I tend to grind only where the plastic is really thick, and then usually for final contouring. dingbat
My big toes jut out to the inside. I usually hit the wall inside before I run out of length, but If that toe is pushed sideways, it causes my feet to feel useless because I can't generate any pressure on my toes. So in other words, you foot is not shaped like a jelly bean. If by, 'to the inside', you mean to the arch side of your foot, a respectable boot fixer should have little difficulty widening the boot in that area. More like a candycorn with the point being my heel, wide end the toes.:D Yes the arch side, and if I downsized to a 25 in a UPZ, would I be risking making the toe liable to crack if I had it punched/ground that much? From the riplies above, I'm thinking yes.
Beckmann AG
...would I be risking making the toe liable to crack if I had it punched/ground that much? You will have to be the final judge in this case, as you have the boot in hand, and know roughly how much room you need to find. In general, if a boot is stretched carefully in stages, you can push quite a bit without problems, but if you go too fast in one shot, you may twist the sole. Bora20
You could always build footbeds that are built up in the middle of the foot, which would effectively shorten the overall length of your foot when on them. However, this would be extremely uncomfortable and I doubt you could be in them very long. Why do you want to downsize anyway?
dingbat
Why do you want to downsize anyway? I've got a wicked narrow heel and I'd like to reduce as much play as possible. I don't have any trouble keeping my heel locked down, but in HSPs and the Raichlies I've worn, it ends up sliding side to side which causes my shin to cantilever off the top of the cuff. Creates a phenomenal pain. I'm thinking I don't want to down size in a upz though from the responses I'v gotten. Especially if the next shell size down is 24/24.5/25. WinterGold
Here is the official list of the shell sizes, etc. Be careful with downsizing as the liners of the UPZ are very thin. Some foam liners need more space/volume than the original liners!
