BlueB
Hey, where's the clew strap on white?
Chouinard
Yet to be installed. Both are rescue boats. Yellow had a soft deck and the white had deck & hull damage with a loose mast step. Neither will win a beauty contest but in a fresh breeze with a 60 mile fetch they rip!
BlueB
Awsome! I have fixed a fair number of old Lasers and Finns too. Hey, why stopper knots on traveler? I haven't seen that setting yet.

They constrain the boom to a smaller range of motion...very useful when pinching tight upwind without loss of downwind control. On the big lake (Erie) I prefer to sail out South close-hauled in a SW prevailing and return North on a broad reach and make good If need be on a beam reach. Similar to lapping a run. BlueB
That's interesting. I can see how it could possibly prevent the sheet from hooking at the rear corner, at a jibe. Have you tried it in a race, against classic setup?
Chouinard
Never raced dingy class but stole the idea from racing on big boats. I got tired of grabbing the main sheet from along the boom to pull the sail to windward.
BlueB
Actually, on laser you get to point higher, but still maintain the speed, by hammering on the vang and mainsheet, block to block, to the corner of the boat. Traveler as tight as you can get. The only time, upwind, you might want the boom slightly up is in the light winds.
Chouinard
Sounds good...I’ll try it if the ever open the US/Canada border.
