teach
Thinking of making a trip to CO the week of May 8 (only 2-3 days, likely). Probably flying into Denver. Any recommendations to do this to maximize snow time and keep costs down? What mountains are still open and might have nice conditions? Where to stay? Any carvers going to be out that week? I have some time off and see you all seem to still be riding, so can't resist this ... thanks for any suggestions, information, etc. Never ridden in CO before. snowboardfast
Abasin is still open with a 102" base! all 900 acres open. Will be open until at least June. Loveland last day will be May 8. No one else is open. Best season since 1996. Come on out and ride the Basin. You could stay in Silverthorne as there are a few hotels there. I don't know how much they are at this time of year. There should be some folks out that week. I might be taking that week off and going up. If I don't take that week off I will be going up on wensday of that week the 11th.Might want to bring an all mountain board because it does get softer later in the day if the sun comes out and it warms up. Still fairly cold as well so bring enough layers so that you will be warm. Lift tickets are 59.00 but I will check to see if there are other deals available. boostertwo
...allows a bit of a discount on A-Basin lift tickets. Please note you need to sign up the day before. Plenty of snow and outstanding riding. Look forward to a sensational trip. Cheers, B-
teach
Thanks, everyone! It looks doable. Is it a bad idea to rent a regular (compact) car? I have no idea what driving there is like. I will probably bring my Coiler RC2 180. It still works OK when it gets sloppy. I may also bring a more powder-friendly board, but I have no experience riding powder, so hoping for a lot of groomed runs. Looks fantastic in the photos I've seen, can't wait. boostertwo
You should be able to find economical off-season rates for lodging. I've had good success in the past connecting with condo owners at nearby Keystone (6 mi. from the Basin) using the VRBO site. You should be good to go with 2wd unless we're in a storm cycle. teach
Thanks, I made it. I'll be riding Loveland tomorrow and A-Basin Monday and Tuesday. I was too late to get the cheap A-basin tickets, I guess... still not bad, though. Hope to see some carvers and get some tips. Blue Coiler and blue helmet.
