wingnuts514
Today was my 4th day on the new boots, it was pretty wet so I pulled the liners when I got back to the house to make sure they dry thoroughly and found this. Looks like the screw in the toe block was driven to deep from the factory. Needless to say I'm not stoked about a hole in $177 liners from a factory issue.:(
wingnuts514
forgot to ask, should I worry about it? I fixed the screw but should I repair the liner somehow? thanks
ptran11
I'm no professional but you should ask a boot fitter. In the mean time duck tape is what I would put on the liner to prevent water getting into the liner core for a short term fix. Macgyver style. CarvingScooby
Take off the screw completely and reinsert with silicone applied to the tread uo to the bottom of the screw head to sealed the hole. That's factory defect-warranty. If accepted for RMA (Return Merchandise Authorisation) don't do anything. RT
wingnuts514
thanks for the responses, I e-mailed bomber but I am afraid of having to deal with deeluxe directly. I'm guessing a warranty issue with an Austrian company would be a nightmare.
Mellow Yellow
check both of your boots - both of mine had the same issue... never put a hole in my liner because I caught it when I got the boots
wingnuts514
the other boot was fine, wish I would have looked them over thoroughly like yourself, my fault for assuming $500 boots would be assembled correctly.
Michelle
FYI since we are the distributor you always deal with us directly. I'll see what I can do, but please always contact us before posting something on the forum. Thank you!
bobdea
that's no big deal. I've done it more than once with af700s many spots on your liners will develop rubs, use duct tape on troubled spots.
Pat Donnelly
I agree with Bob, this is not an issue. I cut both of my liners on the back of each heel in order to run the power cable for my Thermic heaters with no problems with the liners. In addition to taping, you may want to file the points off of the protruding screw points OR replace them with stainless steel 5mm allen head boots. If the screws rust in place you can have issues trying to remove, plus the allen heads can take more torque when tightening. The bolts are flat on the tip (end), not pointed. http://www.alpinecarving.com/parts.html
