Stand Up Paddling!

I played around on those starboards in 2008 prior to there being the canoe style paddleboards around the place!

Awesome fun - great workout for the core and also such a pleasant way to glide through nature, with the fish, birds, etc.

Cool! Have fun!

More info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd LOVE to buy a SUP, but it's REALLY hard to find information on boards. I want something to paddle around on MN lakes...pretty simple, but don't want to bust the bank.

Would be cool if I could double it on my knees...but 90% SUP.

Any tips?

by Liquid Shredder.

Less expensive, three sizes, I think, and here's an ebay vendor

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-LIQUID-SHREDDER-Soft-Stand-Up-Paddle-board-11FT-/330409288541?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cededa35d

The goods are made in Peru, I think. Haven't seen em first-hand, but from what I know of their soft surfboards, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of the SUP's.

Soft and light makes a lot of sense at my age...

Nice one, SoftbootSailer :)

I got into SUP last year, with the cheap-but-good Kona Samoa board and a Spanker Werner paddle. Been doing a fair amount of flatwater, but also whitewater paddling and now trying to surf... The inflatable works very well for the first two purposes, but is difficult to surf. Esp. since I don't have much surf background. The C4 Waterman stiff river boards were a lot easier to surf on.

Here's the SUP thread from last year:

Nice pics, Sultan!

I think Midwest Mountaineering has some SUPs in their demo fleet. They have demo nights on Nokomis regularly.

There are SUP break down paddles, but the length they break down to may not be suitable for kneeling ala canoe. Parts are sold to make break down kayak paddles, so it might be possible to cut an SUP paddle and to set up the sections to work as a canoe paddle as well. A set of straps would be needed to stow the unused section of paddle shaft while kneeling (stuffing it with styrofoam would stop it sinking).

Have spent 3 or 4 SUP sessions a week on the local river paddlin up an

hour or so then just standing and floating back to my truck...

the section of river is in a natural preserve so really nothing to distract

but an occasional kayak or tuber....so peaceful!

Thanks Tom Palka for the stoke to get going, a real Joy to be on the water

here in the mountains so far from the sea. :)
