queequeg
I am 6feet tall with about 32 inseam height.I remember that I saw somewhere that 0.607 times the inseam was a good starting point. My stance is 19.5. I took the measurement center to center on my binding. Is this the right way? I will take your advice and run with 6 front and 3 rear as a starter. Opinions may differ on this, but I think that at your height you might do with widening your stance a bit. I was riding 19.5" (three rear, six front) for the last year or so and I am just 5'8" tall, and it started to feel a bit narrow at the beginning of SES. Over the past two weeks I've made some adjustments and now it feels just right to me at 21". Aside from feeling more stable, the 21" stance seems to be easier on my legs. YMMV as far as that goes. You bring a good point about widening my stance. I have been thinking about that. Since I want a quick fix for this week and don't want to fuzz around too much, I will probably try more toe lift and play around with the rear. When all is back to normal, I think I will experiment a bit with stance width. Nor sure how many more week we have left? Because our snow coverage reminds me of some of the sites in Vancouver. Pretty thin...:(
Erik J
I've sometimes wondered what 6+6 would feel like - how wide is your stance?quote]I don't remember what my stance is...21(ish?). My inseam is 32-33 depending on which leg I measure. I'm going to widen a bit this week, just for sh!ts & giggles. I like the 6f & 6r, but I need to go back to 6f & 3r just to make sure I don't like that better. The 6f&6r puts me on my front leg a little more and seemed to take away a little power from my rear leg- but I tend to ride very nose heavy anyway. The 6f&3r felt very centered over the board - I would probably like this better on another board, but since I'm on a Madd I'm always loading up the nose. photodad2001
Sounds like "skootch" leg. You aren't doing any hardboot crosscountry snowboading are you?
pokkis
Theonly true change is the front binding from TD2 standard to TD3 step-in. Maybe my front heel sits abit higher now with the TD3. This is still a mistery for me why the change has been so drastic. Thx. You are correct, that front binding differece is between 3-6 degrees depending did you also change front heel. If you also changed front heel piece, did you tried your old board? is it killing now more your leg?
Chris Houghton
Sounds like the inserts might be further back on the new board. Put the boards side by side to compare. As Jack said, maybe just moving everything forward one insert will solve the problem, sounds like everything else has remained the same. If you also changed front heel piece, did you tried your old board? is it killing now more your leg? Yes, I did went from supplied heel with the Head boots to the Fintech so I could use TD3 step-in all the way as opposed to Step-in for the rear and standard for the front leg on my previous set-up (TD2). This might explain the difference I felt right away with the new heel. Maybe 3 rear and 6 front might put me back where I was before since I had no leg issues with the previous set-up. No, I did not try the old board for 2 reasons. First I did not bring the old board. Silly me, I could have compared the 2 set-ups. It reminded me of a day when I went to the slope with only my carving set-up to realized that 24 inches plus of snow has fallen... There was the issue of the new Fintech heel that does not work with the aluminum heel receiver from the TD-2 as well. I will definitely bring 2 boards (new VSR with revised heel and toe lift, old FC with the exact previous set-up but standard for the rear leg because my new Fintech heel prevent me from using the TD-2 alumimum receiver, extra ring and tools on my next trip to the hill. Some Sportlegs as well for extra safety...

Yep, moving the binding one insert forward is one more avenue I will check after playing around with the heel and toe lift (if this does not work). As for the inserts, I simply went for the middle position similar to the previous board. The only difference now from the VSR to the former board, the VSR has 10 inserts or 5 positions per foot vs 8 inserts or 4 position for the FC. Maybe this is moving back a bit??? This might be another clue to my mistery!
