jtslalom
I subscribe to Transworld Snowboarding. Back in the late 80's and early 90's they use to post the results from the US Open. All events including Slalom and GS. Their articles were actually written well and in some sort of order. Today when I read through this magazine it is mostly comprised of advertisements. The few articles they have are written sideways across the page. The writers have totally neglected any form of racing or anything to do with hard riding. I understand that the market is kids from the ages of 10 - 25 but I would think that every once in a while they would run an article on hard riding. I'm sure it would spark more interest in the sport than it has since the early 90's and maybe hard riding could make some kind of a come back. I just can't understand why the articles are written sideways with different font sizes. I guess I'm getting old.

You are not alone in thinking TW has gone downhill... and about getting old :D Here are a few threads with similar viewpoints. http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2743 http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2666 http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1192 http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2660 It's kind of a chicken and the egg type deal.. putting racing in TW would make it more popular and cool, but they will only put it in if it is popular and cool and currently snowboard racers aren't popular and cool according to the masses. The sport really needs a charismatic spokesperson like Jonny Mosely or Picabo who goes and and *wins* a big event (like Winter Olympics). Nothing gets the masses going like a winner and a dazzling smile. --Ride on!
patmoore
The last several issues have been tossed in the trash without even opening them. I must get a free subscription from my USASA membership because I sure wouldn't pay for the rag. You will be hard pressed to find a single photo of a board making contact with the snow! Each shot is devoted to some sort of aerial maneuver or somebody ruining their base sliding down a handrail. I have nothing against inverted tricks (I even tried practicing them [see below]) shortly after I took up boarding but my kids convinced me that park monkeys shouldn't be pushing 60. It would be nice to see a well written article on the joys of carving with photos that would make these kids really sit up and take notice! Guest Randy S.
If you want Alpine coverage, the only real place to go is Ski Racing magazine. I get it free as a USSA Racer. Last year most of it was written by Lisa Kosglow, but this year she's competing more so I don't know who the correspondent is going to be. I'm about as interested in Transworld Snowboarding as I am in the tranny's who hang out in the mission district in SF: just another freakish thing that really doesn't attract me (no offense meant to any of our transgender members).
