www.oldsnowboards.com Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Anyone? Looks like Mt Bachelor is open! http://www.mtbachelor.com/winter/services/weather Quote
Mike T Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 It's not bad for November! Missed opening day since I didn't want to waste a vacation day on high winds and noon opening. Saturday was good, a definite softie day. Sunday - more wind, just Skyliner and the kiddie lift open... got 5 runs in midday and went home. Yesterday, pretty crowded for a Monday, schools in Bend closed this week. It was decent carving on a few runs, albeit soft, for the first hour or so. Terrain is limited. Lifts are Pine Marten, Skyliner, and the kiddie lift. Grooming has been very limited.... T-Bird, Leeway and Olympian (new name for Skyliner run) are the only runs getting consistently groomed. DSQ and Coffee as well as Old Skyliner are getting groomed less consistently. Sunrise opens Thursday, Rainbow on Friday. They have changed some of the trail ratings - Olympian (formerly Skyliner) and Leeway as well as upper Avalanche are now rated blue instead of green, and I have not seen any "slow - beginner area" signs on any of the above, which is nice. I was always bummed to have to keep speed in check on Olympian/Skyliner first thing in the morning. Hopefully there will be some snow soon, because while it's a great start to the season snow-wise, losing even 6" of base would be bad. Back to work today - should be back on the hill w/ my family Friday - Sunday. My daughter, now 7, skis fast enough so that I can actually carve when I ride with her now... it's awesome. I still get some lengthy rest stops but it's all good. Quote
www.oldsnowboards.com Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Thanks Mike, appreciate the on site update. Helps a great deal in knowing when to pay Mt Bachelor a visit. I know it will be after the Thanksgiving holiday, just how long is now the question. Thanks again. Quote
Mike T Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Bryan, definitely wait. Based on your reports it looks like Hood is in way better shape right now. I would think the week of 12/7 is about the earliest that it could possibly be worthwhile to come down. Adding Sunrise and Rainbow should spread people out some, but I suspect they will both have their fair share of rocks until we get another 15" or so. I'll be in weekend-only mode until we get more snow, but the usual weekday crew might be able to give you more frequent updates. Quote
www.oldsnowboards.com Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 Works for me Mike. Mt Bachelors rocks are the worst too. That black volcano basalt? is knarly. Done some serious damage there over the years!! I don't have any good deal tickets lined up yet this year either. Probably should have got in on the 12 day, that looked like the best deal for us. Thanks again for the update. Look forward to riding with you guys soon. Quote
shane groshong Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Carving the last few days at Bachelor have been great for early season conditions. Not much snow, but the coverage on the runs are pretty good. I rode four days and did not hit any rocks. Look forward to seeing you all this year. Shane Quote
www.oldsnowboards.com Posted December 1, 2009 Author Report Posted December 1, 2009 Thanks Shane. We in the Portland area appreciate the updates!! See ya soon! Quote
Dan Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Does Bachelor have any deals or discounts going on this season? I know about the club card, and I'll check at Costco. Wasn't there also some kind of gas station promotion? Is there any other way to not pay retail? Hoping to ride there over x-mas weekend - will be my first day on a board this season. Quote
