scrapster Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Anyone have experience with the glass, Coiler AM 177? I'm wondering if the standard core model from a few years ago (with 19inch waist, 11.3scr, 154 effedge) would be too much for a 145 lb novice rider to navigate around on in New England? Thanks! Quote
bobdea Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 they all have custom flex, the key would be to look at the sidewall and see the numbers and then relay the info to bruce OR see get a consensus here but Bruce of course would know best Quote
scrapster Posted September 23, 2009 Author Report Posted September 23, 2009 After talking with the owner, it sounds like its a bit too stiff for me. But for anyone who is interested, it seems like a good deal: http://www.boardsbootsandbindings.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=74&category_id=6&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26 Quote
Bobby Buggs Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I was gonna say, 177 was a bit bigger than I would think for you. I had a 172 for 4 seasons and loved it. If you can find a 72 with the right flex, go for it. Quote
crucible Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 If you're just starting out in carving, a Coiler 177 AM in the tight traffic or narrow ski trails wouldn't be my first choice. You'd be better off with something like a F2 Vantage in a 169. Quote
scrapster Posted September 24, 2009 Author Report Posted September 24, 2009 Yup, I'm passing on it. Hopefully, for $225, someone else will give it a good home. That being said, if anyone has something more appropriate out there that they'd like to part with (165-172ish, 10.5-13scr, AM or FC), I'm all ears! PS- I already have a 9.5scr SL board. Quote
Boarder_Ted Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Not sure if it's what you're looking for but I have a Prior 4WD 169 I'm looking to sell. I haven't actively tried to sell it yet but I can get you photos if you're interested. It's a nice little all mountain board that hasn't seen a lot of use. Let me know if it's anything you'd like to look at. Ted Quote
scrapster Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Hey Ted, Send those pics along! Thanks! Quote
bigdyno Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I have this board but mine is a 16m sc. It is not an ice coast, er east coast board. Way too fast, you need no traffic and it is hard work on ice. It does exactly what it was made for, but that is no where near the east coast. Quote
Bobby Buggs Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Scrappy, the Prior sounds like a nice option Quote
Neil Gendzwill Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Scrappy, the Prior sounds like a nice optionPretty much ideal for what he wants, I'd say. Quote
scrapster Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 The Prior is pretty tempting. Always wanted to try out the 4WD. The sticking point is--my SL board also has 9.5scr, just about the same effective edge, and an AM nose. I was looking to add something that would carve just a little longer and be less hooky. I love my SL, but can't afford to have duplicate boards in the quiver. I'm also considering the Coiler 172 AM that's up for sale--but I'd have to part with my Dupraz to swing that one financially. dingbat Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Gee, If only you knew someone with like say, a Renn Tiger you could trade something for.;) Quote
scrapster Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Hey Dingbat, If only your Renntiger said "Coiler" across the top, my pointy-nosed powder hound might be yours;) (And no, writing it with magic marker doesn't count.) PS- Still looking to take that board for a few spins this winter. Quote
SEJ Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 If you don't want a 169 4WD you might look at a 172. They are great boards. I'm on my third. 169, 172, and now 178. You gain 1/2 a meter sidecut with each step. Quote
scrapster Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 Hey SEJ, I read one of your previous posts about the 169 4WD. Is it really able to turn longer than that 9.5 sidecut without breaking out of a carve? Quote
