Seraph Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 So I have an opportunity to rent a 2 bedroom apt. at Winter Park from Nov thru April. I have only been there on skis and not in a while, so what is the lowdown for carving? Paging TVR........ Quote
inkaholic Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Some very good, long runs with a lot of moving gates. Get to know where the flats are so that you can keep up your speed to make it across. Good bumps on MJ if you are into that sort of thing. A great race hill that made a shift in my mental game till 10am the next AM. Ink Quote
bobdea Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 well, as the other poster mentioned, bumps at MJ, bust out the softies there if there's even a hint of snow. it's not a bad place to ride, better than many, not as good as a few in CO. do it, have fun! there's some killer back country not too far away. you have a sled? Kimo Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 I've chased TVR and Snowman around that mountain a couple times. Had me some good runs. Quote
Snowman Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 WP has a little bit of everything for everyone. The groom has be fairly inconsistent that last 4 or 5 years but there are some great pitches for ripping turns. As with any resort, weekends can be hell but if you are able to get to it early, staying ahead of the weekend hoards is possible for a few hours. WP's strong side is definately tree, steeps, steeps in the trees and powder. There has been a tremendous amount of logging activity this year and that is going to open up some new sweet gladed areas that wernt there before. My suggestion would be to rack up a many tree days as possible and keep the race board in the wings until mid week when the hoards are at their lightest. Remeber to post here on the ride board before you go, usually not to hard to round up a couple of local riders to join and give you the super secret tour. Quote

Thor VonRippington Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 Pretty much what those guys said... Bluebird, Snowman and myself will be at WP quite a bit this season and you may catch a rare sighting of the Snow Goddess. We like to travel to the Summit County area as well. Keep an eye on the Colorado Ride Board... we ususally post before we ride. We've had a few inches of snow in the past 24 hours down to 8,000 feet... its 20 degrees and still snowing here at the moment Wax 'em up yall!! Quote
steamboatrailer Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 If yer gonna be in WP ,make your way to Steamboat. When it's not dumping,we have some of the best carving.Plus ya may have a free place to stay.I've lived here 20 years,I know the mountain pretty well.I also get the inside scoop on whats gonna be groomed the next day, gotta like having the cat drivers for being bros. Cindy Kleh Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Whaddaya mean RARE sighting of the Snow Goddess? I can be found under the Panoramic Lift (top of Mary Jane where there are lots of groomed above treeline trails to choose from) or in the park features on the Winter Park side. And I hate to say this about my own mountain, but bring your own lunch. The cafeteria choices on both mountains are terrible. I won't even buy it at half price. It's one of my pet peeves. I don't mind paying high prices for good food, but .... if your best choice is instant oatmeal in a packet, c'mon! Quote
skatha Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 C'mon now-the chili's not half bad. I had a conversation with a cashier at Snoasis last March-I was commenting about a squeaky wheel on one of the carts the busboy was using to restock the trays, mentioning that, between the lunch prices and the lift tickets, the park should be able to afford some WD-40. The cashier asked about the lift tix prices-I said $85 for a half day. She dropped a "S-bomb" fairly loudly (it was close to 2 pm and the cafe was closing) Really funny. Quote
