pebu
I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is I'm going to Steamboat shortly. Some of you are already aware and I'm just puttin a reminder out here since I'm only a couple weeks away. The bad news is the dates... I was under the impression, due to quoted dates and such and whatnot, that I was gonna be there feb 2-6... Well, wouldn't you know it with my luck, it's actually going to be 9-13. Same time as SES! If there is anybody left in the steamboat area at that time it'd be cool to meet up. Would be nice to have a local guide, somebody to help me with my carving, possibly even some time on a board other than my own:o... I'm sure there'd be a few beers in it for ya. Anyway, it's my college roommate and I (he skis), we'll be getting in sometime early afternoon on the 9th. Staying at thunderhead. I don't know, email me if you're interested in getting together. Dave Winters
I'm not heading down to SES till Tues a.m., so lets hook up Sat 9th or Sun 10th. Feel free to write with any questions. Conditions are kinda soft right now, but some carveable terrain can usually be found. Plan for some new snow though...
pebu
Well, I'm packing my xvas for groomers and my softy setup for pow. As much as I like gettin low on the groomers I think I'm a powder whore. Looking to do both though. I'll email you details sometime after work if I remember. Guest shrederjen
Heya....I will be at Steamboat from Sunday night 10th Feb until at least Thursday morning. If the pow is on....I will stay at the Boat for another 2 days. If it is carving snow, I will dash off to Aspen for Thursday and Friday.... :) Sunday, arrival day, the plan is to ride A-Basin or Keystone, before driving to the Boat. Regardless of conditions, I will be on my Madd on Monday and Tuesday. Okay, the fat board may come out after the race Tuesday.... :P Look me up if you there. I will be practicing on Bashor Monday and racing there on Tue morning. :) Oh yea, Wed, I will be "locked in the closets"
Guest shrederjen
somebody to help me with my carving, possibly even some time on a board other than my own:o... I'm sure there'd be a few beers in it for ya. Oh yea, I drink tequila, not beer!!! :D
pebu
*shudders* Tequila hasn't been the best to me over the years. Really it was only one time... But that one time wasn't very fun. Anyway, yeah, I guess tequila applies. If anybody sees a guy with a bright green jacket and black pants out there it might be me. I'd be riding an xvas or a rossi budwieser board.
Guest shrederjen
I will have my blue jacket on and hard boots, regardless of the board. oh yea, my name is on my jacket, dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! *shudders* If anybody sees a guy with a bright green jacket and black pants out there it might be me. I'd be riding an xvas or a rossi budwieser board.

That means I'll be getting there in just over 8 days... We'll call it 8 days around noon today....

F9 Driver
Hey Pebu, All of the NAASF (airline club) teams will be in Steamboat that week. There will be quite a few Hardbooters there for the race on Tuesday.
Guest shrederjen
The NAASF snowboard race is Tuesday. Ski Races on Wed and Thursday. And, there usually are a few on plates, unless it really dumps (which happens at Steamboat), then there are just a few of us crazies out there! F9 Driver
Congradulations on your Snowbird Win there Jen! I just looked on the NAASF site.
Guest shrederjen
It was pretty sweeet. The pow and all. Guess i was a happy camper!! See ya there!
pebu
Hey that should be cool. It'll be nice to watch a race in person. The only races I get to see are the highschool races down our massive 350ft. vert. and the nastar down one of the less tall and less steep runs. Considering the nastar race. I mean, come on, 5 bucks, I figure, what the hell. I'm probably faster on my slow days than about 80% of the other snowboarders are on their fast days. pebu
So I've been putting together a list of things I need to pack. It includes a helmet cam if I get my hands on it :D. Is there anything that I wouldn't think of coming from a small hill that I'm gonna need to bring? I've got camelback on the list, backpack, etc... Also, is there any problem with having my hardboots as carry-on luggage? Also curious about electronics, as I'll be bringing a pda and my cellphone and would like to have them for when I'm on the plane. Not so much the cellphone, but the axim has games and junk on it. Guest shrederjen
Last time I flew, I put my hardboots, my Mac, my bose headset, camera, shuffles, phone, and my toothbrush in a somewhat small carry on. Oh, add a few glass beads.... :) I normally carry my helmet, too. Getting the hardboots out of the suitcase freed up a whole lot of room!! I left all my gear up in Silverthorne, 12 days ago, so, my dilema is, do I check a bag, so I can bring a bottle of Tequila? or not? Actually, I do believe I left a bottle of THAT up in Silverthorne, too, so, ill probably just come very light, this trip!! The only thing TSA wants to see are computers, glass, and my toothpaste. Oh yea, I always carry an empty plastic bottle, so I can fill it inside the "safe" area. Make sure you bring warm clothes. I have riden at Steamboat, when it was -10F. It is not usually like that, but, if you have face masks/gaiters, they can come in handy. 5 more days till snowboarding!!!!! See ya up there! pebu
Thanks, that helps. I've got my board case mostly packed. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be way over the 50lbs that they limit you to, so there's another $50. I don't think I can get my helmet in carry-on, but boots are definitely going with me. I'm gettin really pumped! Back in the day my dad and a friend of his used to mix up a giant martini and stick it in a canteen or even some medical container (the friend is a doc)... That made for a fun plane ride:). I have a feeling that wouldn't work too well anymore.
Guest shrederjen
As far as the helmet, I just strap it on to the carry on, or stick it in my large cloth purse, if Im carrying that! I have never had anyone give me any flack for that. If they did, I would just stick it on my head to walk on the plane!! The helmet takes up a lot of room in a suitcase, too. I am pretty darn good at getting both my bags to 49.5 pounds. We wont say what the carryon weighs! Practice makes perfect. oh yea, you are going to an Alpine environment where you very well can get altitude sickness. Drink lots and lots of water. Hydrate. Before the trip and during the trip. Thus, the empty water bottle in previous post.
pebu
Well, it was a blast. Unfortunately I'm back at work. I know everybody is busy at SES so you won't see this for a while, but whatever. Jen, I saw you underneath Sunshine lift a couple times doing some drills, but I couldn't quite catch up. The pow was pretty heavy on sunday, but it was still a blast. I just tried to stick a picture in here, but somethings goofy, so I don't know whats going on. Monday we just about got stuck on the mountain, it was soooooo nasty up top. Tuesday was pretty nasty too, but each run we were makin new tracks, so it was awesome. My gallery is broken at the moment otherwise I'd give you 2 previews. Then on top of that my friend had the camera and he's got all the pictures, so it'll be a while for that as well. Oh, I have to figure out how to get videos off the camera into the computer for the (crappy) helmet cam stuff too. Later
pebu
Gallery is working again! :D After going ass over tea-kettle I had to crawl my way out of the pow. If you'll notice, I came off of that roller to the right side. I didn't see it till the last second, but I figured the snow is soft, I'll be able to get a little air off of it. I landed, but immediately afterward my board was in the air again, but my head was in the snow. Picture was taken with my phone by my skiing buddy on the groom. It took me probably 20 minutes to get from there back to groom. It was possibly the greatest moment of my life. Right now I only have 2 camera phone pics on my gallery. This one and a view from the top of Sunshine express. I got video off of the camera and onto my computer, but it's 2 gigs of mostly fog and snow. Kinda boring. I'll try to edit it down and get some clips up there. Also my skiing buddy has all the pics he took with his cam, so it'll be a bit before we're able to load those on the gallery.
