Mike T
They've put in a trauma park on one of the best carving runs at Mt Bachelor, I-5. This is the run on which it seemed about half of OES happened last year. I had a rather lengthy conversation about this with the mountain manager today. He told me they are leaving it up for at least 3 weeks, and will evaluate the situation after that time. Bummer. I did make some other suggestions that he promised to give some thoughts to: 1) Groom Thunderbird on the afternoon shift during high pressure cycles so that it stays firmer and last longer 2) Raise the priority of Flying Dutchman in the grooming rotation so that it gets done every day except pow days, ensuring that the groom is firm enough for carving 3) Groom the former Air Chamber run daily (was named DSQ before it became Air Chamber) and clean up the remains of the terrain features there Regarding the I-5 trauma park, the more people who speak out against it, the better chance we have of getting it back. So, if you want to carve on I-5, please contact Mt Bachelor management and speak your mind!
Buell
Hey Mike, Is there a particular person to we should contact? Do you have an email? Why would park riders want to ride the Rainbow chair just to hit the park? Thanks, Buell
Mike T
The president's name is Matt Janney. He doesn't have a published email address although I suspect mjanney@imtbachelor.com will work. I will update if I can verify. I spoke with Tom Lomax who is the mountain manager in person today... he happened to be right near the information desk.
NateW
I've never been to Bachelor but I gotta say, it could be a blessing in disguise. Carve around the features. Seriously, the terrain parks have some of the best carving at both of my local mountains. Most of the people there just make beelines from feature to feature so most of the park goes untouched. Just don't snake anyone / cut anyone off / hide behind any jumps / etc. I hit the jumps too so I'm not too worried about being kicked out, but if you're hitting none of the features they might be less tolerant if you get in their way. Unfortunately the way this one is laid out, this isn't the case.
timinor
I've almost been hit by those "beeliners" as they make a beeline for the terrain park. Thunderbird and Leeway are routes to the terrain park at the bottom of Pine Marten. I do my best to stay out of their way.
Galen
Bummer. I wonder if this will also increase usage out of the sunrise lodge area:(
Mike T
Bummer. I wonder if this will also increase usage out of the sunrise lodge area:( Probably won't increase usage of Sunrise... probably can't... it's been crowded as hell on weekends. One of the many reasons OES is held in March, is that the crowds start to thin out noticeably by that time.
