John Bell Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Still trying to find something narrow enough for TD1s and yet versatile enough for pow. Here's what I've compiled so far: Head Icon (24.7 cm. waist) Nidecker Smoke (25.1 cm. ) Rossi J. Jones Narrow (25 cm. ?) Nidecker Proto (21.5 waist) Atomic Firestarter (25 cm.) F2 Speedcross/Diablo (roughly 22 cm) Obviously there are superior offerings from Coiler, Donek, Prior, etc., but I'm wondering what's out there among the McSnowboard companies. Any others I should know about? Thanks. Quote
MUD Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Are you looking for board that are currently produced? Quote
John Bell Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Not really. I wouldn't want something that's more than 7-8 years old, though. Quote
b0ardski Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I'm riding a 165 nideker escape 5-6yrs old, 20.5 waist. A bit stiff & narrow for deep pow But my skilled 180#s can flex it pretty good in 8-12 ins. And it rails the groom well with a tail for switch. Quote
MUD Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Ok, Why "narrow enough"? Why do you NEED a narrow board for td1's? Could you just run some palmer PLS plates or a plexi plate to help distribute the stress? Quote
John Bell Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Ok, Why "narrow enough"? Why do you NEED a narrow board for td1's? Could you just run some palmer PLS plates or a plexi plate to help distribute the stress? I've heard that I shouldn't go with anything wider than a 25 at most for TD1s. True, some kind of plate would probably help. But we don't get the huge pow out here anyway, so I might as well go with something 20-22 or thereabouts, I figure. Quote
MUD Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Somebody here turned me onto this Rad Air LSD Reto Lamm. It is a rather aggressive board, but sounds fun, they only want $200 for it. Do a search here to get an idea of what people think of it. http://hardbooter.grublist.net/shop/index.php?prodid=67 Email them about it if you are interested. Be patient though, they are pretty busy. D-Sub Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Jeez, John...do decisions always take you this long? ;) If you're not getting much pow where youre at, you're better off with something that carves well but can float when necessary. Nidecker Escape might do the trick, but I don't think it's much of a performer as far as carving goes. MLY Signature Series Shannon Melhuse in a 167 is a SOLID board...hard to find though. Quote
felix Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Sometimes new (old) Radair Tankers 200 or 192 come up, they were 242 or 245mm wide only. SG Cult is 230 only, and as Rad-Air Tanker a semi-massproduced at a bigger company (Elan Austria for SG) but only in relatively small quantities (I believe Rad-Air quantities are a lot bigger though). Rob Stevens Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 What D Sub said. I'd go for the Atomic. Their cores are very strong and would probably hold up better than the Rossi's, which would be my other choice, but just because you said pow riding. Don't buy the F2 Speedcross for the same reason... Not that it's weak, it just doesn't have a nose, really. Quote
John Bell Posted January 3, 2008 Author Report Posted January 3, 2008 Thanks for the thoughts, guys! That does help. Didn't know Atomic was so well regarded. (I'd considered an Oxygen but shied away because of the cap construction.) Quote
