NMU Alpine Boarder
I was wondering about the Burton Race Plates's monting disk. I currentls ride them on a Burton board with the 3-hole pattern. Here's my question..... Are the disks the the same as the burton soft boot disks? Are they a standard size? I was thinking about getting a pair of 4 hole disks just in case I need them in the future. philfell
They actually are different slightly. You can use a freestyle disk in a plate binding and vise versa, but there are some small differences. The way you figure out the angles on Burton's freestyle set-up is the disk only has an arrow and the degrees are printed on the binding, on their plate binding they are reversed and the degrees are on the disk. When using a freestyle disk in a plate binding you are guessing at the angles. Also the disk they use for their plates they use a fiberated plastic which makes the disk much stronger and less likly to crack. 90 percent of the riders out there would never crack a disk but there is a chance. I've ridden with Burton freestyle disk in their plate bindings without any negative effects, but I wouldn't recommend it for full-time ridding, only to get you through.
