utahcarver
I currently use purple bumpers on both pairs of TD1's that I ride. I've often wondered what would be the advantages of moving to a harder bumper urethane formula. My first guess is that I would sacrifice a bit of comfort for more edge control. And my second guess is I'd get tossed all around with a harder bumper. I've got to order more bumpers anyway for some 3º discs so I thought I might go to a harder compound. Any recommendations (other than moving up to the TD2)?
Guest Ken B
I have used both the purple (med) and the red (hard). Although I can't say I noticed much difference (certainly no comfort issues), you might try the reds if you ride agressively or are 190+ pounds. Performance-wise I would say that there is a marginal differnce between the purple and reds. A little flex in the binding is helpful in that it allows some shock/vibration adsorption and allows you to move a little. Now that you ask, I might try the purples again this weekend just to see. -Ken
Baka Dasai
I've used red and purple, and I can't tell the difference. The TD1 basically connects to the board via the disk, so I don't think the TD1 bumpers actually do that much, at least compared with the TD2. It seems like the idea of the TD1 bumpers is simply to reduce the amount of pressure the disk puts on the board when the board flexes in a turn, ie, to protect the board from breaking.
