bjordnolf Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Can you guys reccomend me an alpine board I could find used and somewhat cheap? I am a beginning carver and am 6'2" 230lbs with mondo 27 boots. thanks Quote
trikerdad Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Looking in the classifieds for what's available, that looks like it would work for you, check out bobdea's Coiler 180 FCII or chrismcq's Donek 171 FCI. Quote
alexeyga Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Somebody from Alberta was selling race stock Factory Primes 185 for 200lbs+ guys... might be a perfect fit... Quote
carvedog Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Somebody from Alberta was selling race stock Factory Primes 185 for 200lbs+ guys... might be a perfect fit... Beginner carver on a 185 FP??? Just curious what you started on. Quote
alexeyga Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Beginner carver on a 185 FP???Just curious what you started on. What?! At 230lbs FP would be a real poppy... Started on a soft-ass freestyle stick with clickers... Couldn't figure-out the skidding thing, so I got into carving quite naturally... Quote
pebu Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Bjordnolf, Where are you planning on using the board? Wide open and gradual hills with great cord or really tight and crowded and/or cruddy snow? That would be the difference between a sl and a gs.. Quote
bjordnolf Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 It would be more open and with good snow. thanks Quote
alexeyga Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 You see, these race stock FP-s love it wide open... Some might find them a bit too fast though... just a bit... Quote
carvedog Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 You see, these race stock FP-s love it wide open... Some might find them a bit too fast though... just a bit... Not saying that a 185 would be way off. When I started I was quite happy with the 165 to 175 range. Now I rarely ride anything that short, it just seems like the longer boards need a little more speed to flex properly. I like to see my beginner carvers start with something a little more flexy and a little shorter. Just my two cents. Quote
bjordnolf Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 Well I have a Rossi Race VAS 166 at the moment and it just seems small. Quote
alexeyga Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 It's too small for you weight and these foam Rossi-s are on a soft side as well... Either one Coiler or Donek in classifieds would be really sweet... Quote

bjordnolf Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 I emailed the guy about the FP's, no one mentioned any F2's are they too soft or something? thanks Quote
Jim Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Can you guys reccomend me an alpine board I could find used and somewhat cheap? I am a beginning carver and am 6'2" 230lbs with mondo 27 boots.thanks A 179 Prior 4x4, Coiler Allmountain and Donek Axess. Definitely more forgiving on a new carver. All three are awesome boards. None of these are cheap but they are cheaper used and are excellent boards for you. I sold my near-new 174 Prior 4x4 for $380 last summer. Didn't use it enough. Quote
alexeyga Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 I emailed the guy about the FP's, no one mentioned any F2's are they too soft or something?thanks F2-s freecarve-oriented boards would be rather soft for your weight, you may try longer RS-models, but for the price there better choices.. imho... bjordnolf Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 How about the Hot Blast 178 in the classifieds? thanks Quote
alexeyga Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 How about the Hot Blast 178 in the classifieds?thanks :D I was about to mention it, but it is no-beginner board... These are really nice and fun sticks, sidecut radius is a bit large for a freecarver, quite stiff, but at your weight it shouldn't be an issue... If you're ready to do some work when riding, may give it a try. Quote
alexeyga Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Jump on it if you can-killer beginner rider for big guys... Quote
bjordnolf Posted January 25, 2007 Author Report Posted January 25, 2007 I went with the hot blast 178 hope all goes well. thanks for the help Quote
C5 Golfer Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I went with the hot blast 178 hope all goes well.thanks for the help You will not be disapppointed in a Hot Blast 178. I have 2 of them, and plan on riding it all weekend at Whistler this weekend. Let me know what you think.. I do not think it is too much board for you at your size. I am 6'3" at 210 - Quote
