Corduroy Artisan Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I saw Old Burton Safari in almost perfect condition with Burton three strap bindings. Make me an offer or let me know what it might be worth. Quote
tex1230 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 you saw or you have? email pics please Quote
Guest Les Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I have one of those, it's probably from 88 or 89 and hasn't been ridden since 92. Is that a decent board to start hardbooting with? Quote

Is that a decent board to start hardbooting with? No, not unless you have no other choice. This coming from someone that does still ride these wonderfull oldsnowboards. There are just too many better choices, safer, more forgiving etc, etc. Change your "User CP" so people in your area can offer help. Quote
willywhit Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 black and white or faux neon colours ? Quote
willywhit Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I could tell my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio. Quote
Jack M Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I have one of those, it's probably from 88 or 89 and hasn't been ridden since 92. Is that a decent board to start hardbooting with? No. The 165 "Comp II" was probably the most popular, so I assume that's what you're looking at. It had a mere 135cm running length, and over 16 meters of sidecut radius. Way too long for learning when there are so many better (and still cheap) choices out there. Quote
Corduroy Artisan Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 It's the Comp III Safari Faux Zebra in Black and White. Quote
Guest mtlyon Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I'm interested, how long is that thing? Quote

The one I have is a Comp 1, bought it in 88 or 89 if I remember right. Oldsnowboard what do I need to change in my cp? BTW I am only new to carving, I've been riding soft boots since late 80's. My current ride is a 174 Supermodel. I love the way it rides bu I thought I'd give Alpine a try. Quote
Jack M Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 The Comp I was 160 I believe. It had a narrower waist than the Comp II and III. You could mount it up and have a go, but please do not judge alpine snowboarding by this board. The sidecut radius is still going to be quite long for learning. Quote
Guest mtlyon Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 My recollection is that the Safari III was the longest. My friend Bronko had one when I was living in Mammoth 89-90. I used to tow him behind the snomo at ludicrous speed down to Red's Meadow and back. I've always wanted one since... Quote
Corduroy Artisan Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 I saw it in a pawn shop for $89. It is big, Probably as long as my 168 give or take a couple cm. I took a better look at it and it is very ridable but rusty, so rusty infact that the rust has clumped and slightly seperated the edge from the top sheet a couple cm long. Other than that, a stone grind would restore it to damn near perfection outside of normal aging. I will get it for somebody if they want it for a $10 handeling charge. Burton 3 strp bindings included (the old wrap around the ankle kind). they might be brittle? Who knows, its old for a snowboard. $89 + 10 + shipping. Let me know :D Quote
redrabit Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 FYI- I have a Safari Comp I and it is 165 as compared to other old Burtons (Cruise and Cruzer, both 165)... Quote
