jtslalom Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 I am sick of kneeling on my snowboards in order to hold them down while tuning so I went out yesterday and bought some swix tuning vices. They are made for skis so in order to use them for snowboards I had my father-in-law make up a jig to fit in the vice and attach to the board. He is now in the process of making one that will fit both regular snowboard hole patterns and Burton ones. I was wondering if there is anything on the market that acts as a vice to hold a snowboard while tuning. I bought the vices for $160 and the jig is free. Quote
D-Sub Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 $160? ouch I use one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SNOWBOARD-WAX-TUNING-VISE-VICE-VISES-VICES_W0QQitemZ190070694168QQihZ009QQcategoryZ62170QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It is plastic but has served me well. I just drilled holes in my bench to mount, but you can use the clamps if you have the right lip on your bench. Quote
Thor VonRippington Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I have been using this vise for well over ten years... works great for skis and boards Quote

Thor VonRippington Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I should have stuck some stomp pad studs on it to spice it up for him Quote
jtslalom Posted January 15, 2007 Author Report Posted January 15, 2007 Thor, How do you run a diamond stone or file down the edge of your board while it is held in place by that vice. I'm thinking that you probably hold one edge at a time in the vice and work on the other edge, if not then how does your board go in the vice. I want to be able to work on my board while flat on it's face with both edges exposed. The jig will allow me to do this. I will post a picture when the new one is done. Quote
Thor VonRippington Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I dont' have a huge need for access to both sidewalls at the same time... when using a file or stone, I want to be able to see the edge I'm working on. Quote
