cfj04 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 SOLD Donek GS 180 - hardly ridden - $350 plus $25 shipping in the US. This board is in exceelent condition. Photo shows thumb prints but top sheet and base are like new. Storage coat on base. I have two GS boards so this one is going to a new home. Will entertain trade for a freecarve board (11ish sidecut) of similar length GS 180 164 - effective edge 14.0 - sidecut 23.80 - Nose 19.00 - waist 23.80 - tail 8.6 - stiffness Quote
Dan Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Is that the right figure for sidecut? It looks a little curvier than that. Quote
cfj04 Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 Definetly a 14 sidecut - photo at slight angle my be deceptive? Quote
Dan Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Definetly a 14 sidecut - photo at slight angle my be deceptive? Duh, my bad. I was reading it as 23.80 sidecut. Quote
bobdea Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 no taper? rough! I'd of snagged it otherwise Quote
cfj04 Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 If you go to the Donek site, you will see that Donek does not build boards with a tapered sidecut Don't know if that changes your opinion about the board (or Doneks as a category) but thought you should know CJ Quote

Example: The 180 Tucker 05. But I have a very similar deck to yours (the Tucker 04) and 'rough' is not a word I would use to describe it, at all. I would buy your deck if I didn't already have mine! Someone jump on this, it'll be a blast. Quote
cfj04 Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 LOL I was 100% certain that if I didn't put in "with very limited exception" someone would chime in to correct me. I didn't think it would be within a couple of minutes though You are correct - with VERY limited exception - Donek does not make boards with a tapered sidecut. Quote
Jeffrey Day Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I have a question, what was the target weight range this board was built for? I weigh 155 pounds and am a fairly aggressive carver on the east coast. Will it be too much for me to handle? Quote
cfj04 Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 Personally, I'm confused by the Donek weight/stiffness rating. If you look at the Donek site, you'll see the GS boards range from 8.2 up to 11. Same for their Freecarve boards. It is a combination of length, preference and sidecut. Typically, a longer board will be stiffer so tht it holds an edge without the rider weight on top of the tip and tail. http://www.donek.com/specs.htm I'm 190 but didn't buy the board because of the specific stiffness - I just wanted to try a Donek. Feel free to call Donek directly to ask them for an answer or you may want to see what others comment about this question. Sorry that I can't be more specific regarding "is this built for 155 pounds" CJ Quote
Jeffrey Day Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Yeah, I'd be curious to see what others have to say about the stiffness of their boards. My longest board is my Donek RC167-GS which has a stiffness index of 5.9. I'm curious to know how stiff and/or long of a board I could go. Thanks for the quick response! Quote
Chris Houghton Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I had the 18.5 waist version of this board, slightly softer according to Donek's site, and it worked well for me at 190 pounds. And no, it wasn't "hooky". At 155 pounds I think you'd better be prepared to push it hard, and don't worry about the lack of taper. Quote
Mike T Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I have a really hard time figuring out the Donek stiffness scale. My 180 GS is an 8.9 and it's towards the stiff end of my comfort range. My FC 175 is an 8.0 and it's towards the soft end of my comfort range. The Axxess 172 (5.7) is right in the middle of my comfort range, and the CMC 210 (13.3) didn't feel too stiff my any means. A CMC 186 (8.4) felt kinda soft to me. So it's clear that the longer the deck, the bigger the number you need for a given rider. I weigh 190 BTW. Jeff - at 155 my guess is that the 8.6 180 would be stiff for you, especially for ice coast riding. Quote
Vandalrob08 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 I weigh 145 Lbs and my GS boad is a Donek GS 175 with a 7.0 stiffness and the Core Construction Uprgrade and I have no problem whipping it around on a course. I really wanna try one of the 180'S I just already have a perfect GS board for me or I would have already bought this one!!! Also I talked to Sean when I was ordering my board and he said that the longer the board the more minimal the change in stiffness will be. He also said that for example, an 8.6 stiffness on a Slalom board would be noticeably stiffer than a 180 with a stiffness of 8.6. Quote

RaceBoarder, you're welcome to try my 180 if you can make it up this way some time. (I'd come down, but with all this snow at Bachelor, why make the trip?) Buell has the same GS 175 / 7.0 stiffness that you do. Trust me, it's a LOT softer than mine. We've flexed them back to back. (Threadjack over. I keep visiting thsi thread 'cause I want to see who takes the prize... since I have something very similar myself  ) Quote
