wavechaser Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I'm curious what the most popular brand of SL boards are on the WC circuit right now, and what construction and lengths/widths are prevalent. Is titanal in use as much on SL rides as it is on GS boardz? Advantages / disadvantages? Are riders going wider (as a whole) on waist width than in previous yearz? I'm 6'3" and 190lbs. - I've been riding a 1003-2004 Hot Blast 160 (199mm waist) but I'm thinking of going longer - like 163. Quote
philfell Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Kesslers dominate. Most guys run about a 163cm in length and around 21cm wide. Quote

Thanks Phil, I figured you'd be helpful on this one. I have a limited budget so a Kessler is out unless I find a used one that is not busted up. I'm trying to decide between a VERY lightly used 05/06 stock F2 Speedster SL 163 (197mm wide) for $325 or a used Tomahawk 160 (200 mm) for $200 from Vic - any thoughts on the two? Quote
wavechaser Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 Phil - email sent...only if you have time...ha! Quote
philfell Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Either board would be a great choice. Vic's probably has a full race season on it, but he takes very good care of his boards (helmets are a different story with that guy though). If it were me I'd probably go for the Tomahawk. They are super quality. Vic is a big strong guy so a board built for him, even with a full season on it will be beefy enough for your size. It's slightly cheaper, and the money will be going to help one of the top US guys snowboard season. Quote
wavechaser Posted January 10, 2007 Author Report Posted January 10, 2007 Perfect - Thanks so much for your time Phil. Quote
Hans Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Mostly all fanatic dutch alpine riders rides Tomahawk. And they are very enthousiastic about this brand. Especially the ones of this season with titanal in it. And they are almost half the price of a titanal Kessler. Quote
wavechaser Posted January 10, 2007 Author Report Posted January 10, 2007 Yup, I'm picking up a barely used T-hawk SL board through a US teamer for a sweeet deal. Not titanal though - the word from those guys is that they almost unanimously seem to like the non-titanal ones better. Anyway - it will be a BIG upgrade to my stock Hot Blast 160 I've been on the past two years. Thanks for the post Hans! Good luck to the Dutch team!! Quote
bobdea Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 tomahawk is hot stuff, I've never heard anyone who has been on one say anything bad about them when you get sick of it tell me and I'll scoop it! Quote
