bobdea Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 good bindings! I took mine out for a couple runs, softer, lighter and more damp, I like them they have a new pad under the plate between the plate and the board, it works! I wish I had of kept my burton straps, they are way better straps than the nidecker straps, I will have to buy a pair. now on to what I don't like, some parts use 3mm heads they strip so easily and also some of that stuff has to be hit with a dose of locktite, in fact I personally feel that prior shipping the toestraps should be installed and hit with locktite on all the parts that use the small wrench because some people are boneheads and won't figure out that this needs to be done. EndUser Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Mine should be here this week,I'm psyched. I hope they are worth the dough! Do you know if the black anno will scratch easily? Quote
bobdea Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 mine have not but I'd assume it's easy to scratch, probably not any easier than other colors but it will show up more Quote
Bullwings Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 cool, my friend's FR2s should be coming in soon then. that should push his limits higher, along with the demo atv i convinced him to get. also, i just want to see them. the fr1s look so cool in the pictures, i can only guess what those fr2s will be like when i get to pick them apart and see the whole interface with the board and everything. what board did you mount them to? tanker? Quote
refried Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I managed to scratch the heelcup as soon as I opened the box (maybe it came that way, UPS abuses everything here). Real nice bindings, I spent an hour just checking out the high quality machine work when I got them. Simple to setup and adjust, and real comfortable (not too sure about the buckles, but the Limited(Nidecker) straps and highback are nice). I put Loctite on everything I didn't have to change and checked everything after a couple hours, but everything was tight. The adjustable cant is real nice, I broke my foot a month ago and after few hours of riding my foot gets real sore, I rode all day today and my foot felt fine until I took a run on a board with regular bindings. I had mine on a Prior Pow Stick, but had a 200 Tanker and an Undertaker with discs with me if I felt like changing boards.I'll try the Tanker tomorrow, hopefully the temp will drop a little and we wont have mashed potatoes. bobdea Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 yup, they went on the tanker, they marry well! Quote
refried Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I've never seen another big Tanker at Baker, I don't think anyony else has either, Judging by some of the looks and comments I get. I picked up this board from RJ down in CA. Don't know STV or Sandy (I did talk to him a few years ago about a demo Tanker). Quote
RJ-PS Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Looks like I'm going to have to bring some of the boys up for a D-day! What is the best place to get everyone together....oh heck I'll just put this up on the other forum. Quote
svr Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Refried, Sorry we never got to hook up for riding at Baker or Stevens while I was living in Washington. Would love to be there this year with a tanker as last year was very good in Jan-Feb. I rode the tanker for two years with Freerides and loved the setup (bombproof, but a tad heavy for long hikes into the backcountry). I would like to see some new pics of the FR2's as the website does not have a very detailed view yet, and am planning to get over to the Norwest at the end of this month to ride at both Baker and Hood (maybe just two days at each place) to enjoy the powder you guys are having as the season is not very good here in japan right now. Refried here is a couple shots from baker hiking the arm last year and at the bottom of the lower lodge. cheers, sandy Quote
refried Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Great pics, Looked like a great day. I'll post some pictures of thr FR2's as soon as I find my battery charger and charge up the camera. Quote
EndUser Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I got my FR2's! I have studied their construction some, but have not yet mounted them. So far I am mostly very impressed -- the person(s) who designed these seem to have put a lot of effort into them. Well thought out! The materials are high quality, except for maybe the plastic highback (non-limited edition) looks a little generic, and there are lines in the pastic from the molding process, but I think its just cosmetic. I'm a bit concerned about the high-back rotation as the heel-loop is metal and does not seem to flex very much. It appears (from the instructions) that it is expected to flex to get the rotation -- do I read that right? The Discs do not support Burton 3D hole pattern, that's a problem for me. I need to see what Catek can do about swapping them out for something that works with3-hole. Quote

bobdea Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 mine have 3d holes yours should too, with catek they usually are the same plates Quote
bobdea Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 ohh yeah, update: I got leather ankle straps and capstraps by robbing a pair of cartels and C14s I don't care what anyone says, I like my burton straps! the highback is the next upgrade for sure. Quote
refried Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 The new discs have either 3 or 4 holes, my first set was the old style with both 3 and 4 holes, my extra discs have only 4 holes. Quote
bobdea Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 I swear my OS2s had both! if so I might switch plates, I actually like burton softboot gear allot Quote
svr Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Bob, I did the same thing to my FR1's...I robbed the gel P1 ankle strap and tow straps as I did not like the fit of the Nideckers. Quote
bobdea Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 heyah, I had P1 straps on my fr1s thats probably my favorite strap I should of taken them off the fr1s Quote
svr Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Bob, can you take some pics of your new bindings and post them....I would love to see the mods to the baseplate to see how much it changed. cheers, sandy Quote
swt Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 3-hole, 4x4 and more... The FR2 bindings are sold with 4x4 only discs. CATEK has a long-standing legal covenant with Burton that precludes selling 3-hole compatible mounting discs bundled with soft bindings. The OS2 historically has used a "universal" disc that was compatible with both 3-hole and 4x4 insert patterns. This has changed. The OS2 in now supplied with either 4x4 OR 3-hole mounting discs. The same is the case for the OS2 Disc Kits. You can purchase the Disc Kits in 3-hole OR 4x4 patterns. OS2 Disc Kits can be used to mount up your board quiver with either OS2 or FR2 bindings. Highback rotation Enduser: You can safely offset the heelcup 2 full holes on the baseplate, plus the entire microadjustment range on the heelcup mounting blocks. Baseplate machining Sandy: Below is a picture that shows the extensive machining on the underside of the FR2 baseplate. This, in combination with the new disc/power plate combination, results in a 20-25% overall weight reduction compared to the FR1. <img src="http://www.catek.com/FR2_web.jpg" width="800" height="480" /> Quote

swt Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 That really sucks. That was one of the best features on Catek's IMHO. Interestingly, we have received a ton of requests from riders and dealers alike that we segregate the discs. A lot of riders didn't like the elongated "shared" holes necessitated by combining the two patterns on a single disc. By offering separate 3-hole and 4x4 discs, we are able to optimize the discs for each insert pattern. Quote

I am one of those riders...I only have burton bindings but the last soft ones I brought (customs) came with their unidisk. I just get an uncomfortable feeling that they are not as strong as separate disk.... Quote
lonerider Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 This, in combination with the new disc/power plate combination, results in a 20-25% overall weight reduction compared to the FR1. Can anyone actually weigh one of them? I recall my 1G ones felt like they weighed at least 3 lbs per bindings. Whenever a company says they've made their gear lighter by N% it would be nice to have a ballpark weight range to start off with. Quote
