jnshapiro Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Well, I did it. I hit a rock, hard. But it wasn't my board. It was my elbow , followed by my knee. Dang windblown crust. Put a hole in the elbow of my shell. I very gently melted the edges so it won't fray, but I'm not sure the best way to repair it. I'm thinking of sewing it up and using some seam seal. Anyone have some suggestions of DIY repairs? I'm also working on another project that will require putting a small hole in the leg of my pants with a grommet. Any suggestions for a way to make that hole that won't result in a mess? Thanks in advance, Joel Quote
willywhit Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 the only logical solution.... or try sail tape from a marine store Quote
Guest kennyusmc Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 you can buy gore seam which is a gore tex tape , I had a roll of camoflage stuff around here somewhere, if I find it I will buzz you or you can buy something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/GORE-TEX-FABRIC-REPAIR-KIT-NEW-PATCH-KIT-JACKETS_W0QQitemZ8824407996QQcmdZViewItem Quote
bobdea Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 thats the second time someone has mentioned sail tape this winter what is it? glue it with some sort of adhesive then sew it with a high quality thread, I've started using my fly tying threads for this purpose and they out perform other threads by a long shot. then taping after you do the above certainly won't hurt anything Quote
jnshapiro Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 Here's what I ended up doing. I sewed it up and then coated the threads, seam, and surrounding area with a seam seal (it's a vinyl glue I think, used for tent repairs and such). I covered that with a piece of red (my coat is red) ripstop tape. Everything is drying now and should be dry by morning. The back of the tube says to let it dry overnight. Once I'm sure that it'll work out, I have another idea (thanks to Randy Salzman who got it from Scott Ferrell - gotta give credit where due) for an easier release for Intec heals. If that works out, I'll post the items needed, procedure, and pics. Early testing is quite good. Thanks for the suggestions folks! It's handy having an REI nearby to pick up stuff like this. Quote
MUD Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 If the garment is worth it, look for a "gore tex repair center" in your area. They can do quite a nice job. Google it and see what comes up...... Sorry, just read the DIY part, but maybe a service center could sell you a patch. Quote
