Can anybody give me a report on the conditions at A-Basin? I am thinking about making one last snowboarding trip to end the season (perhaps this weekend).

Also how busy will it be on a weekend considering it's the only place left open?

Or are there any other places left in CO that are open?

Thanks in advance!

Was up yesterday. Great top-to-bottom coverage. Groomed slopes still sensational for carving, Pali bumps still rocking, and hiking areas (East Wall, North Pole Chutes, Snakepit) all still very well covered.

We hit Snakepit yesterday and rode several inches of fresh untracked snow atop a smooth subsurface--it was worth the hike. Keep in mind you'll be rocking spring conditions--frozen in the early am, and softening up through the morning.

Recommended and worth a trip if you're in the area.

Was there last weekend and the groom was nice and firm in the morning...lots of fun. There were a fair amount of people on the hill but I wouldn't call it crowded...just not empty.

hey John, let me know when you'll be going up -- esp. if you drive through Salida. Depending on the timing, I might like to join you for a day, maybe split gas costs? Not quite ready to put the boards away...

Loveland will be open until Sunday.

What's the better choice?

Actually which is closer? We'll already be driving ~ 7 hours from New Mexico.

Tom I'm sending you an email about our plans.

Based on the route I would expect you to take, you would have to drive by A-Basin to get to Loveland. Granted, they are only ~20 minutes apart if you go over the pass.

Depends on which route you're taking -- I25/I70 or hwy 285. former -- Loveland with latter for Arapahoe.

Well I just got off the phone with Tom and we'll be @ A-Basin tommorow between 830-845. Hope to see some other carvers there!

I'll be on my Axis with my Red SB325's. You can't miss me-the boots stand out!

Tom (I think) will be on his 4WD and he's got Suzukas.

Hope to see you all there!

Cheers

Hey Mateusz, it was good, though not nearly as nice as when we rode there together. The morning was cold and icy, then it snowed some, then it got a bit slushy. But for this time of year it was a fun day nonetheless, and I had a good time.

Had a technical difficulty -- the nut in my boot hinge (upper to lower connection) fell out, fortunately the guy in the tune-up shop had a bolt that kind of worked :)

It was a good day, fitting way to end the season -- other than 15" of powder, we almost got all season conditions on the same day, from ice to slush, with whiteout, then blue skies, and a few runs with sweet snow.

Tom,

Wish I could've been there:) Abasin is my favorite:)

My ankle is getting better (still hurts when I run), so maybe we'll make some time in June to close the season at Mammoth:) Hope it's not gonna be all slush:))

take care

A-Basin still going strong. Full coverage and excellent grooming top to bottom. 4-6 inches of blown-in fresh this morning. Well worth a trip if you're considering it. Not surprisingly, midweek is far less crowded than Beach Party weekends.

Last weekend for Pali. Get it while you can.

Pali and East Wall closed for the season. Good riding on all groomers and ski/board compacted slopes, but a spring rock board is recommended as the slushy, dusty snow is getting thin in spots.

The recent warm weather has created rotten, collapsable snow off-piste. Hard to hold an arc when the bottom falls out.

A-basin said they no longer aim to close on july 4 because they can open earlier with thanks to snowmaking. I think I'd still rather have a late season than an early one.

Both are dicey and hard to bank on, but, based on the accident I had on spring ice, I think I'd go for early season start from now on.....

Hey, I got a flier for CME at Breck next year-and they scheduled the meetings apres!

My new job actually pays me to go to CME, too...... :D

Pencil you in, AK? Are you going to be healed by next January?
