  1. Was up on Tuesday between dropping the kids off at school and picking them up so only a couple of hours. Only three rows of parking were taken up when I got there around ten. Perfect spring conditions! Yeah I know it's the beginning of January... Just did laps on Star (HRX was closed) and was great. When I left at about 12 it was getting a bit soft/choppy but would've stayed for another hour or so if I could've. Great morning of riding but boy do we need some base, saw a lot of dirt.
  2. 55 started 20 years ago on Clickers, 12 years in HB's
  3. Hey Dan I'm thinking Saturday too. Let's talk about pooling it.
  4. Tanker is SOLD Just happened to get on the same chair as John. Crazy coincidence!!!
  5. Thanks Brian Well... Slipped- write back on the board when you get to Meadows. I'll bring the board just in case.
  6. Hey Dan if I could catch a ride I'd be up for Sunday...
  7. Hi Scrapster, just listed a Tanker 172RR. might not be want you want since its a reverse rocker (basically flat with no camber) but thought I'd bring it to you attention. Pretty much new, it has about 5 days on it. let me know if you're interested and I'll get some pics up on the board. $425 ($899 list). Kelvin
  8. Also forgot to mention the $425 includes shipping within the USA Here's some reviews on the review board. Have a 2011/12 Tanker 172 RR (reverse rocker) to sell. I loved the board but I think I need something smaller to fit me (5'6" 18.5" stance). With my stance width I'm kind of stuck in the middle of the board and would like to be able to set back in certain circumstances. It has about five days on it the normal binding mounting scuffs (ran it with F2 titanflex bindings). There's a small (1/4" dia.?) dent in the ptex otherwise it's perfect. Got it new from RJ at exotic boards. If you need more photos or details just ask...
  9. Wanna play hooky from work next week! When are folks going to the hill?
  10. Got signed off by my physical therapist on my Achilles heal recovery and hit the hill yesterday. Was awesome to be back on the board and the snow. I've never seen Stadium with exposure this late into the Season. It's a bit scary how little precip we've gotten this year. But with that said snow on the hill (where it was) was great yesterday, way better than what I expected. I waited til noon to be at Meadows and got there just as they were re-opening Main Lot which was good because I wanted to test out the legs on the bunny hill before going whole hog. No probs on Buttercup so on to the bigger stuff. First hit Vista side but was totally fogged in with what seemed like about 30ft visibility, so headed East where I settled into SS and Voyager for a whole bunch of runs. Snow as almost perfect but half of SS was taken up by race school so it wasn't the wide open run that we all love. The achilles was a non issue just the muscles around it were like noodles, so just lasted a couple of hours. Was a great day getting back on the board though and looking forward to hooking up with folks on the hill this late winter and spring!
  11. Thanks for the advice sunsurfer. I know about the addiction issue from the experience of our favorite clown Rush (probably an unnecessary political insertion but couldn't resist , apologies if I offend). Doing relatively small doses so shouldnt be an issue. Plan on doing the oxy (5mg) only to bridge the initial post op pain. Was prescribed Ketorolac as the NSAID of choice and will be ending that in a few days (5 days max). Seems like the pain of coming off the block was more than the pain from the actual surgery but that might be me just getting used to the pressure of the dressing and boot. It feels better already about a day and a half after surgery. Will keep a close eye on the pain levels and feeling around the Achilles site for indications of infection. Thanks again! Kelvin
  12. Man, that would be awesome! I'll email u this week. The surgery went without a hitch and it turns out that it was a complete rupture. Had a nerve block and it's just wearing off now (about 15 hrs after surgery). Not sure how its going to feel after I can actually feel the ankle but I have a whole lot of oxy to manage the pain.
  13. Not really worried about speed. That went away about a decade ago already. :o I just want to be able to get down the hill! It'll probably mean some adjusting on the bindings to minimize the impact on the Achilles but like I said before I'm hoping that since it's my front foot the impact will be minimal. Thanks with the good wishes!
  14. btw Here's a blog site that is a pretty impressive gathering site for all things Achilles Heel injury related... http://achillesblog.com
  15. Sun surfer... Wow fantastic info thanks so much. From my research sounds like your rupture was a bit higher than the typical break, mine Is what I suppose would be the more "classic" positioning (about 2-3cm above the bone). Although that didn't seem to be an issue with the doctor (or at least he didn't mention it as an issue in his recommendation) I wonder if that's an issue (with as you said more blood supply at the point of injury). In regards to the report the early PWB seems like a slam dunk but the argument for or against surgery seems pretty murky unless one is over 65, sedentary or are affected by the conditions described in the report. One thing I'd love to know is if you've known of any other serious complications from surgery other than the weightlifter from thirty years ago. If this is just the worst of a substantial history of surgical complications then I might want to reconsider. it doesn't seem to me that the percentages I've seen warrant avoiding the surgery due to infection possibilities but then that might be naïve. I'll look around for more info. but till then I'll be washing the ankle before surgery and hope my immune system can handle the stress. One more thing... Do you think that the infection issues might be related to the fact that plaster casts were the major immobilization device used and that prevented regular cleaning of the wound? I'm wondering that as I write. Good luck on your recovery and keep us abreast on how you're doing!! and thanks again for that report. Kelvin
  16. The Doctor (an Ortopedic surgeon sports med specialist who was a mechanical engineer that designed airplane and helicopter engines before becoming a doctor - so cool) said that Surgery was the way to go so going under the knife Friday. He also said that I should be good to go by the end of the year. We'll see... hope he's right. Will update for the record. Thanks!
  17. Thanks for the good wishes Hans. Tex, I'm hoping I'll be able to use the pass this year because its the front foot. Not as much pressure on the Achilles as the rear. Might be asking for a bit much. But I'll guess we'll see.
  18. Thanks Tex was the rupture on your front or rear foot? I'm wondering if that makes a difference since I bend the rear a lot more than the front.
  19. Hope everyone's summer is going well. I was having fun until the fourth inning of a company softball game and as I was backing up for a pop up at third base it felt like someone kicked me in the heel. After looking around for the culprit and finding none I reached for my ankle and found that where my tendon should be I could only feel a flap of skin. I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience with partial tears and either having surgery or letting it heal on its own. I'm in my fifties so I'm kind of on the fence. The tear is on my front foot (left foot, "regular" stance) The complicating fact is that I got a season pass to Hood Meadows last spring and need to make a decision on whether to return it or if it's possible that I can use it this season. I have the internet and doctors' advice but would love to hear experiences directly related to this injury, recovery and hard booting. Any help, advice, encouragement or even a shoulder to cry on would be appreciated! :-) Thanks!! Kelvin
  20. Anyone heading to Meadows over the Weekend? Could carpool too.
  21. Ill be up there with a telemarker friend. Will monitor the carver channel. Probably be hitting star in the am then moving west as the day goes on.
  22. Anyone riding this week or next week?
  23. Was out there today with the kids and got a 2 hour window in the am for some turns without the kids with a telemarker which was fun. First 20 mins hard and scrapey. Next hour softening with best results at the end of the hour. And the last 30 mins fading from great to a bit soft and heavy which was actually kind of fun. In a previous ride with Sam we talked about nose chatter and he used a bit of heel lift to approach the issue. Well I tried that and added bringing my stance more foot parallel to about a 5* splay. Tried first on the carpet then felt it made sense so it was set and it was amazing the difference in handling from the more splayed stance. Back to conditions a side note was the pm was perfect for 4-6 year olds to learn. The snow was slow and grippy. Anyway had fun out there. Hope to be riding with you guys sometime in this warm spring. Later Kelvin
