  1. I have a pair of catek freerides that I've thought about getting rid of for a while. They have the nidecker straps and are in good condition. If you're interested, we can work out a fair price.
  2. I'm a huge fan of Northwave softboots. Low profile, simple but strong lacing mechanisms, and various levels of rigidity.
  3. Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends and Lovers, I hope that you are all enjoying the new season. Snow is still falling in the mountains, but its time to gear up for warmer weather in the Rockies! Here's the situation: I ended up with a voucher to REI sports because my snowboard self-destructed. I bought a BRAND NEW, NEVER USED Garmin Colorado 400t GPS unit. It comes preloaded with topographic map data! Other features include: -wireless sharing of user routes, tracks, waypoints, and geocaches between units -supports Geocaching.com GPX files for complete cache descriptions and hints -features built-in JPEG picture viewer -slim, compact size 5.5 2.4 X 1.3 inches -weighs only 7.3 ounces -powered by 2 AA batteries (not included) that provide a 16 hour run time -limited one-year warranty I need cash fast, so call or e-mail and this fancy toy is all yours. I've also listed this unit on craigslist with some pictures, so check it out: http://denver.craigslist.org/ele/709226215.html Jason 720-339-6532 JasonGFox@gmail.com
  4. Only needs some minor repair... http://denver.craigslist.org/spo/463855495.html
  5. While I agree that walking on an icy sidewalk may--at times--be treacherous, I have a hard time comparing it with snowboarding or driving on black ice. And yes, I would argue that the three activities are different, regardless of their inherent risk. Trees and rocks don't have airbags My snowboard doesn't have a seatbelt When walking on the sidewalk, I think the rate of speed is generally much slower than a "moderate" snowboard speed. Also, aside from my grandmother, I've never known anyone to be seriously injured by a sidewalk. Car accidents kill nearly 1.5 million people every year, compare that with the number of sidewalk fatalities. That's a great question that I honestly don't know the answer to. snowboarding = automatic injury? Maybe not, but my experience has shown me a positive correlation between snowboarding and injury. So Jim, the point that I'm trying to get across is this: I'm a wuss. :D
  6. I'm only 22!! Yikes! What next, will I be moving into a retirement home?
  7. Well everyone, I sincerely appreciate the straight forward remarks and words of encouragement. There is no denying that this community has some hard core riders that are fully devoted to the sport. It's a love affair, and for some people, injury is nothing more than a fee that must be paid in order to live in a land of heavenly corduroy. I'm baffled by the loyalty to the sport, it's as if your living the way of a bushido warrior--prepared to spill your entrails for his sacred majesty. Seriously, some of you guys are fanatical, and I admire your for it. Unfortunately, I don't think I was cast with the same enthusiasm. Perhaps I was even born with an unhealthy amount of respect and fear of nature and the limits imposed by it. But don't get me wrong, I love the sport, the feeling, the time spent with friends, the sleepless nights praying for snow, the feeling you get when you look back at the most gnarly line you've ever tracked. It was this love that had me on the mountain twice a week despite a two hour drive and hours of homework waiting at home. I was progressing and it felt great. I felt like a manly man; like a man without fear; a man with nothing but unbridled passion. However, when I hit the tree I wasn't pushing my limits. I was taking a few turns through the trees, caught an edge, and railed into a tree. I was only going at a moderate speed, I wasn't pumped with adrenaline, but I still injured myself. And while it's a minor injury and could have been much worse--it could have been much worse. If i had been turned in a different direction, hit a different tree, fallen in a different way, the injury could have been much worse. Indeed, even if I had been alone, my life could have been drastically altered. I do love snowboarding and everything that goes with it. But what I love even more than snowboarding is sincere human interaction with family and friends. To me, family is more important than all the stoke in China. I think that after this experience I will strive to achieve a good balance of moderately risky behavior and a rewarding family life.
  8. As soon as I hit the tree I knew something was wrong. "oh god, oh god. Steve, I'm injured, call for help." It was cold--very cold. Nearly 20 degrees below zero. What a day. In the end it wasn't too bad. 4 broken ribs, lacerated kidney, pleural effusion, and 4 days in the hospital. Luckily I didn't hit my head, I didn't injure my spine, I didn't puncture or collapse my lungs, I didn't ruin my life. My season is over, and honestly, I'm glad. I'm dissapointed by the fact that I put myself in such a dangerous situation. I'm an advanced rider, but I made a mistake. I love snowboarding, but the pain and fear that snowboarding caused me almost outweighs the joy that I got from riding. I know that I'll start riding again next year, but I don't think I'll ever attempt to ride at that level again, and that makes me sad. So, to those of you who have injured yourselves while riding: is it worth it? Will I get over these terrible feelings?
  9. I found this while trolling craigslist for freeride boards. This is not my listing http://denver.craigslist.org/spo/269240299.html
  10. I don't know about you, but those Grand Tetons really get my blood pumping. <img height="300" width="400" src="http://www.misc.com/picts/199509Tetons/grand_tetons_1024.jpg">
  11. What hangboard is best for sliding?
  12. Not trying to hijack the thread, but I've been using the same diamond stone for nearly two years now. Somtimes I'll clean it, and that seems to make a difference, but maybe it's just been so long that I can't remember how well it used to work... Anyone else have an elderly diamond stone?
  13. I'm far from an electrical engineer--an english major--but I've had my iPod as high as 12,500 feet. So far, my iPod has remained in one functioning piece. While I'm intrigued by the possibility of an iPod altitude limit, I find it hard to place that concern over those of moisture and shock.
  14. The second picture that I posted was from the inside of a "free range" farm. Somewhere in that room is a small door that leads to a 30 X 30 foot gravel lot--way too small to accommodate all of those pigs. But not to worry, the pigs are chained, by their necks, to the ground. So, while I agree that meat is not in itself a bad thing, it is what they make poop from. After all, we are humans, natural born carnivores, aren't we?? Yeah, I realize that I might be isolating myself by posting veggie propaganda in a thread thats glistening with the drool of meat eaters. Oooh yum! Pig Back! I may indeed appear to be a tree hugging kook, and while that disappoints me, I know that this is not the most appropriate venue for discussing such a volatile subject. Then again, I don't care, and they all had it coming. As for the tempeh--Yeah, I've fermented my own tempeh. Top it with a good helping of nutritional yeast gravy and you've got yourself a meal that will keep you riding all day! However, I sort of overdid the tempeh thing a few years ago, and I haven't been able to get into it again. Oh well! Plenty of beans in the sea!
  15. First of all, meat is disgusting, it's what they make poop from. Having said that, do you guys remember the story To Build a Fire by Jack London? A cold day in the Klondike, the wise dog and the not-so-wise man. Underneath his coat, nestled against his body, a few slices of bacon and some biscuits that had been soaked in bacon fat. After a few mistakes, the man dies a miserably cold death, and he never gets to eat the bacon sandwich. What a shame. Then again, he probably had it coming.
  16. It's got big hills, snow, and groomed runs, so... yeah, it's a good place to carve.
  17. BOULDER HAS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION THAT GOES TO ELDORA EVERY DAY, SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.
  18. **GO TO BOULDER** While Boulder is densely populated by drunk, rich kids, you'll be studying and riding too hard to notice that they exist. Boulder is a great school (with a good engineering department) in a great city that is steeped in culture and good people. However, it might be difficult to get up to the mountains every weekend. When phenomenal riding is only 40 minutes away, you're going to be up there every-single-day. Drink a lot of coffee and you'll be fine.
  19. My Oh My... That's a very tempting offer. I want this board, but I'm not sure I can swing it, I'll have to see what kind of financial mischief I can get myself into. So, sell it if you can, but if it's still around in a couple days I'll drop you a line.
  20. Well, my friends and I are going to be heading up to Copper mountain next week for some very mediocre mountain biking. This isn't something we normally do, and we have only one mountain bike available to us, so, we were hoping to rent some bikes on the way up to the mountain. Now, I've had several rental experiences in my life, and most of those experiences were similar to my mountain biking skills-- mediocre. So I'd like to find a good shop to rent bikes from that I can feel good about supporting. Any reccomendations of good rental shops in the area would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks everyone! Edit: Is Pioneer sports any good?
  21. I voted "yes" because that's what everyone else was doing and I'm not one to cut against the grain.
  22. Oh man, I love my catek freerides, but the highbacks that came with them are crap, total crap, amazing crap, totally amazing crap, very dissapointing. I'd love to switch them out.
  23. ...And if you get tired of riding inside the resort, ride the pass.
  24. I have a pair of Mondo 29.5 Head Stratos Pros in good condition for sale. Email me if you are interested, JasonGFox@gmail.com
