  1. Looks like they got dumped on: 28 cm overnight at Sunshine. Details here
  2. rss is unmoderated so nobody runs it. We haven't seen Crispin there for years.
  3. CBC reported the story but cocked it up - they claim Jasey was on the same equipment the Europeans use. I sent them a correction through their site feedback but I doubt it will do much good. Article is here.
  4. Yeah, well in skating we don't have bottom turns, so all the frontside/backside terminology grew from the surf-oriented skaters calling them based on the cutback (kickturn at the lip). So now anytime you rotate with your front out it's frontside. But what with all the switch tricks and doing them nowhere near a bank/pool/ramp it's no wonder there's confusion. Now translate it to the snow and it's one more level of indirection.... I like toeside/heelside for explanations, it's the most clear. But I learned to skate in the 70s (and still skate) so in my head I'm thinking backside/frontside.
  5. Even the skaters get confused on backside and frontside, especially if they've never ridden vert. I just call them toeside and heelside to save confusion, those terms are clear.
  6. Too bad the article didn't mention that the board is a Coiler, but even so Bruce is gonna have to clone himself to keep up with the orders now.
  7. I was already pissed, now even more so. Make it a keg of Big Rock Traditional - just say no to Molson!
  8. Looks like red tribal to me :) Time for Shred to work up some topsheet design... Way to go, Jasey and Bruce!
  9. I still have a Gnu Raceroom from '90 or so - can't fit my boots on the old Elfgen plates otherwise I'd take it out for a spin. That board was a monster in the crud.
  10. I think by now for those 4 places it's built into the marketing - those are the mountains you go to if you want the "pure" skiing experience, ie no snowboarders. Given the behaviour of a lot of the lunch-tray crowd, can't say I blame them.
  11. And now you can get hit by an avvy on the chair - see here for an article discussing how much snow has been dumping in Tahoe and area. 13 year old kid was knocked off the chair by either the snow or the preceding windblast of an avalanche, was buried and died.
  12. Bruce says my board will be shipping later this week. That qualifies for both a Whoo! and a Hoo! as far as I'm concerned. I'd post pictures but it won't be near as interesting as Shred's board - just a stock AM172 in orange flames.
  13. Sure that wasn't a typo? I'd think 45 back would be very uncomfortable and also give you overhang on a 19.5 waist.
  14. You want the LeMans or maybe the 413: see here for the BOL store summary. I have the old 224 which is I think more or less the LeMans and I find it ideal for all-mountain riding. I used to ride alpine touring boots and I found the 224 even better, as it is fairly soft side to side and has a nice progressive flex.
  15. You might want to check out the Line Transfer boot - it's essentially a little bit stiffer Raichle SB shell mounted on a DIN sole. Apparently you could swap in SB tongues for a softer flex. See this thread for more detail.
  16. You can get the Speedcross from Hardbooter.com
  17. Set it on a bench so that it is only supported between the boots. That will take side cut out of it. I think if nothing drags when the rig is tilted over 90 degrees in that situation, nothing is gonna drag. One thing to watch though - all the hardware hanging off the back of the boot (drink&drive lever and whatnot). That can catch in soft snow conditions even if the heel doesn't hit.
  18. Yes, although I'm not sure how big the difference would be. No time to shake the rust off my trig to figure it out. D-sub, how are you determining what the angles are? Do you just look at it, or do you test? I mount up the board, put the boots in and then roll it on edge to check how far over it will lay before something hits. 90 degrees, with the current setup. I'll have to re-evaluate when the AM shows up.
  19. I feel old, I haven't owned a pair of skis shorter than 200 since high school.
  20. If there's a "needless to say" coming up anywhere in these stories, I'm outta here...
  21. I ride a 21.5 waist with 45/40 angles on 27.5 Raichles, no problem.
  22. I buy the optics thing. But OTOH our military guys have to have something to do when they're not doing UN stuff. I saw them successfully deployed at Lake Louise a few years ago - bunch of army guys were doing course prep for the world cup downhill, sidestepping the course on rental skis in their camo gear. Frickin' hilarious.
