    Phone Poll

I tried to like the smart phones, but the reception sucks. I can't hear all that well and we've had problems with reception----up to now. Samsung Convoy. Military spec phone with the best reception, clearest voice, easy to operate, a battery that really lasts 4 days. It's a flip phone that you can't butt dial, don't have to worry about scratching or cracking the screen like the last one I had, and you can put it iin your pocket. Plus it has push to talk and an excellent speaker phone you can hear when you're driving. Check out the number one rated phone on the Verizon network, and I'm not alone. So if you can't hear, have bad reception, and can't always recharge, and not all that unsafe as phones go (radiation). I don't work for Verizon, I just want a phone that works and works well.
  4. Nicely done Looks like a lot of fun. Just out of curiousity what board are you riding? Looks like an old Rossignol.
  5. I'd have to vote for leaving politics open here. I will have to say that of the smut that I read (Fox, Cnn, NY Times), I can't stand to read the comments. The political threads that I've read here (and not all of them I'm sure) have yielded the best links and discourse that I've been exposed to. When comments turn a little testy, I just go back and search Fox and it puts it all in perspective. At least here I can garner some logical thought processes from both sides. Just watched "Good Night and Good Luck" finally. Very apropo methinks.
  6. Nice riding. You guys are incredibly lucky to have that many friends to ride with, and have fun together. The slope where you were riding looks perfect.
  7. I suppose I should have put one of those smile things on there. I was definitely being sarcastic. I thought the Korean carvers were very good, and the Korean Short Track skaters are the best in the world. I figured someone that disparaged the Koreans might get the point, and I was calling them out for what looked racial. Sorry if you misinterpreted.
  8. Yeah those guys carve just as bad as they do short track skating.
  9. Sounds like you got your wish to wash your foot. Never been in a cast, but I know how bad you want to take a bath after laying in insulation all day. Hope this all goes well for you. It was a pleasure talking to you, and thanks for the advice and link to Phil and his Doc. Did the contact to a Mako Doc, and am doing some scope work to see what's needed. Remember more give on the equipment, less breakage on the body. Best of luck, and thanks again.
  10. Thanks for the link. Very nice interview. As he thanked all of the support staff from Canada, you can see what happens and how it affects your athletes. Too bad the US in their quest for medal counts can't see that, much less NBC with their poor coverage. Who had the most Gold Medals? I believe it was the Country that supported their athletes the best. I wonder if Red Bull can register as a country in 2014?
  11. As it is, or should I say was, I was able to board without any problems at all. My binding angles and cants are set up so there is no stress on the medial side. I was quite careful how I was walking, but now I'm having trouble walking out to the car or even turning around to change direction in the house. I was actually waiting for the trolley to bring us from the parking lot to the Chalet to eliminate walking, but now it's painful to do just about anything. I actually felt much better after a day of boarding, but now I don't dare risk it. RICE is now my take on just getting by. Have one more job to do to pay for the damages, and I'm dreading that, so boarding is done for the season, at the very least.
  12. Looked at OATS, and will follow up on that. Am contacting a couple of knee specialists and talking to my original Doc tomorrow, and hoping to hear from a guy that had two half knees put in by a Robotic procedure and using a CNC machine to make a perfect fit. Will be asking about HTO also. I'll find out tomorrow about whether or not Synvisc could interfere with any procedure I might have, should it not work. Had a bad 2 days, but I guess most of it was from being inflamed. That's going down for now, but I need to get something down that will work for me. Thanks for all the info, and anyone else that has something to add, it would be very much appreciated. From what I'm following on people that have contacted me off the thread, I would hope that I could serve as a clearing house for some good web sites and good options or at least a little more information. Apparently a lot of us have damage, or are wearing out. Probably like most of us, I figured I'd last for years. Only 150 lbs, in excellent shape, only ran on soft surfaces and then only twice a week, and didn't work at anything too often so I didn't think repetitive motion would be a factor. Guess body parts only have so long a life.
  13. As with all medical procedures, it's up to the individual to direct their own treatment. I agree that we need to do all the background research and will continue to do so. I was hoping to find a Doc who could give me an informed (and I mean well researched) opinion on different options, and have sent out my records and MRIs already, but need to find a Doc that is actively involved with new procedures. Do you happen to know what kind of knee replacement the person you know had? Anyway best of luck with your knee. Keep me informed on your progress and anything that you may find out. Thanks
  14. Wait for the MRI before you get too bummed out. The complete knee doesn't sound right from all the info that I've garnered. Best of luck.
  15. Son and I were standing at the top of Grand Targhee. I'm regular and he's goofy, and we were facing each other and couldn't see the ground. All of a sudden I felt movement and realized we were both going down the hill side by side. We stopped and sat next to each other. We had the visual orientation of each other, and that helped. In times of extremely low/flat/or no light, I will sit down, hold my head in my hands and concentrate on my knees and that orientation will help.
  16. Anyone had bone on bone in their knee. Trying to find out as much information as possible before I commit to a drastic operation. I have a full thickness defect (hole) in the cartilage on the weight bearing zone on the medial (inside) of my left knee measuring 12 to 13mm. Yesterday it took a decided turn for the worst and is now catching bone on bone with a decided click and some pretty severe pain. So my Doc said that I might be a candidate for a Half-knee (Unicondylar) replacement. He said he hasn't done enough to be total competent to do the procedure. He didn't think a microfracture procedure would work. Another Doc (Knee specialist in Bozeman Montana) said he's had good luck with the microfracture technique, and if it didn't work, no harm done. My dilemma is trying to buy as much time before I have serious reconstruction work done in case new techniques become available to an intact knee (like new synthetic cartilage). I'm worried that even a half knee will remove too much material to be able and go back for a new treatment. I've read that a whole knee effectively keeps you from kneeling, and I need that mobility or my ability to work will be curtailed-drastically. This is not even mentioning that I may no longer be able to board, and I will have to change my call sign from Bumpyride to Bumponalog. Anyone have a half knee replacement or a whole knee replacement, or offer suggestions? Anyone know the best Ortho in the Seattle/Tacoma area for knees?
  17. I'd have to say the most boring guy on this video was the one on Hardboots. The other riders had some style of their own and were really fun to watch. Now for us. Maybe we Hardbooters just don't have the skill or the youth necessary to be a good carvers on softboots. Maybe it's like cheating. Maybe it's: Philosophy: Age, Deceit, Cunning, and Treachery can Defeat Youth and skill!
  18. Boots new without liners. $35.00 Thermaflex liners new. 10.00 Intec bindings and heels new. 90.00 Board I use 90% of time new. 150.00 (most expensive I've had $235) Total. $285.00 Season pass this year. $540.00 Gas to and from hill $10/2 Prius. 5.00 Food at hill. 0.00 It can certainly be done on the cheap and I wouldn't trade anything I have for any other piece of gear. You have to be able to spend some time looking, create your own deals and be lucky.
  19. What are little speakers? Do you mean little boxes or do you mean little drivers? Picture of Magnepan 1.7
  20. The new Magneplaner 1.7 for $2K. Outstanding. Lifetime speaker as the manufacturer will repair for a very reasonable price, and will continue to do so in years to come. If anyone out there is looking for speakers, audition these, as you really won't believe how good sound can be. Lots of new "Relatively" inexpensive gear that has come up to levels that wasn't seen 10 years back. Peachtree audio has some nice stuff, as does Rotel and some Chinese tube gear. Digital is starting to give analog a run, especially with DAC tube gear. Back to snowboarding. Was thinking about checking in with Never Summer to see if they might be interested in making a run at Alpine Gear. They sounded pretty cool in another thread, and in the interview they gave.
  21. My son and I were bumping it up at Crystal yesterday. Visibility was really bad, so bad that you sometimes had trouble seeing a bump in front of you, and sometimes not even that. Had a bunch of missed turns and was getting bounced around pretty good. Well I decided to ride completely controlled and slowly. My son was half the bump run below me so with all the grace that I could muster, I boarded down and said to him, "I sure am pretty." He replied, "At least your boarding is."
  22. Looks pretty interesting if the torque on the ball can be controlled. I like the looks of the rings. Looks like a lot of variation possible for all types of riding. Good luck.
  23. I will keep this is mind. Seems as though I have a mid-week pass for White Pass. Been there, and it was fun. I haven't been there since the expansion and am interested in how that opened up the hills. Keep in touch and you can do a private email from my profile. CYA
