How did this work out? Is this board still available? -David
  2. Great looking board. What weight rider is it intended for?
  3. Make that four to one. I think that I would prefer the blue and white design if it was simply the blue with the line down the middle, and no white.
  4. I think I might have done that once by mistake :o0
  5. I have a set of FR1s that I am planning on using. I have no idea of where to start as far as setting the canting. I presume that it should be up at the toe and inwards at the front, and down at the toe, and inwards at the rear foot. Is this correct? What would be a good starting point for angles of 18° front and 9° rear?
  6. What flex is the board?
  7. The front of the mountain is nearly all intermediate terrain, great for a family, and wide open carving. There is challenging (double black) terrain on the back but it generally requires a traverse at the top and/or bottom to get to and from the lift. There is a nice central village with hotels and numerous fancy condos nearby. They have very extensive cross-country trails, outdoor skating and a tube park. It is a great hill for a young family, where not everyone wants challenging terrain or even to ski/snowboard. There are plenty of other activities. Well worth a trip if that is what you are looking for.
  8. Does anyone have a good feel for how much difference the extra width on the 167 Tankers makes. I currently have an older, 2004, 172 which I have really enjoyed but find that there are times in tighter steep trees, that I think that a shorter board would be nice. I don't have big feet, so I don't need the extra width of the 167, but the shorter length and extra float in powder could be an advantage. Would I be losing the advantage of going shorter by being slower edge to edge? I think what I really would like is the 162, but they don't seem to be available. Does the reduced rocker of the newer Tankers make much difference? Would the new 172 be much different than my older one? Thanks, budge
  9. Would 170 lbs be too light for this board? I haven't ridden hardboots much although I have plenty of softboot time in. Cheers, Budge
  10. I have a 160 Volkl Cross that I found to be too stiff in the nose for powder. I got a Tanker 172, with the intention of using it for soft snow days, saving the Cross for hardpack days. In reality, I virtually never use the Volkl now, as it is less versatile than the Tanker, and is not too much better on the hardpack.
  11. It's 1.2 kg! It had better be worthwhile.
  12. Are those standard 4x4 inserts? What is their spacing? Do you have specs on the board? Cheers, Budge
  13. Thanks for all the input. I'm only 160 lbs, so the extra stiffnes was likely part of the problem. The 4WD was quite soft, made for someone even light, so that may not have helped either. I can't see my self spending $450, on the off chance that I really like the Sidewinders but I will definitely keep an eye out for a set of F2s. Anyone want a set of TD1s? going cheap. :o)
  14. I played around with hardboots several years ago on a Prior 4WD with TD1s and Raichle boots. I loved the edge control and power for carving, but I found the set up very unforgiving in the trees and bumps, basically anywhere other than groomed runs. The TD1s are probably the stiffest and most unforgiving interface out there, and I have reverted to softies on a Tanker 172. How much difference is there between TD2s, TD3s, F2s etc? Are the new sidewinders more or less flexible than the F2s? Do flexible bindings make a big difference for all-mountain riding? Budge
  15. I never had the pleasure of sailing with the wooden booms but I still have my 1983 Windsurfer. I remember making "high wind" daggerboards for it. The Rocket 99 was a huge leap forward ;o)
  16. If you liked the Intuition liners, why not get those again? http://www.intuitionliners.com/
  17. get a helmet!!! Sorry! I just couldn't help myself.
  18. I had the 4WD that I used with Burton System (3-strap) bindings. My feet are size 9 but I still had boot-out, or more accurately, binding-out problems. The corners of the binding stuck out too far. The Catek Freerides might be better as they lift you up a little higher but I think that the 4WD is really too narrow for softboots although there may be bindings that work better. The ATV is probably a much better choice. Budge

  20. I rode tje Volkl Cross in a 160 for several years and found it to be a very capable all-mountain carver. The only place I found it to be a problem was in fresh snow. The relatively stiff nose of the board tends to dive in the soft stuff. I am now riding a Tanker 172 which may not be quite as capable a carver but much superior in the soft stuff. The Tanker 172 also works very well in the bumps which surprised me.
  21. K-martshopper I have had no heel lift problems, despite not using the Velcro strap which is attached to the outer-boot in my boots as well. The Intuition liners really seem too hold the heel down well. I just give a tug on the strap as I am putting the boots on but that is it. I was going to try to put a Velcro strap on the liners but there has been no need. I liked the original Salomon inner-boot lacing scheme but the tongue just killed my feet. If you have some moldable liners in your hard-boots, just pop them in your softies and give it a try. Budge
  22. If Prior is local, why not try demoing a number of boards? It has been a while since I dealt with Prior but they were very good about demoing their product. Budge
  23. I got Malmutes for use with my Nidecker 800 bindings and really like the combination. The Malmutes however had the traditional tongue arrangement that caused me all kinds of discomfort on the top of my foot. I had some Intuition liners in some old ski boots that I tried and they solved the problem. They don't have the fancy lacing and velcro but they don't need it and are lighter and much more comfortable. This arrangement has worked well for me for several years now. Budge
