  10. sorry guys - yes it is METAL, built last year, took delivery in Dec 2010. I had him build it for 200 lbs. but this think carvers very easy, feels soft, yet holds edge like crazy. I think that is the trademark of a metal coiler.
  11. i just realized my email on BOL was out of date. Please resend. Thanks.

  15. Used, but in excellent condition. Base and edges in great shape. Makes an excellent soft boot carver and all-arounder. Detailed pics on request. Asking $150 See my other posts for bindings and a new LibTech 180.
  16. Used 3 days in soft snow. Mint condition. more detailed pics upon request. asking $750. This is a great all arounder for a heavier guy, or big board for an average size rider. Rides and feels much smaller than length would indicate. Waist width = 19.5 CM stiffness is 6.5 + 6 Only selling due to massive weight loss:D Selling bindings and some long freeride boards also (see other posts)
  17. now 19 years into having no ACL in my left knee. tearing it was actually is the reason I stopped skiing and started boarding. i have no idea if it is doing long term cartilage damage for me, but I do work to keep my legs strong and only suffer pain when I am NOT exercising enough (hah, great excuse to do my favorite sports). Cycling and carving (on smooth snow at least) definitely works. Nothing builds my quads like carving. I don't agree that a brace is necessary. I am guessing the forces involved in carving would way overpower a brace quite easily. It would however remind you subconsciously that "hey dummy, you are injured here" which may have some benefit. My ortho, a leading guy in the bay area who works on a lot of pro sports athletes, tells me that a lot of pro athletes in basketball and football play without ACLs, just not publicized as it'd probably affect their marketability. I think a lot of it depends on your own physiology. If you have a lot of natural muscle and stability, 3 out of 4 ligaments may suffice depending on what your sport is. I don't find carving creates a lot of lateral stress on the knee. I did have to give up ultimate frisbee however. If you don't have pain or instability in the things you like to do, I think no surgery is better than surgery. You can always get the surgery later if things deteriorate.

  22. I am pleased to report that it is quite simple to change the flex of the Head Stratos without having to do major surgery on the shell or install springs. Simply change the liner. I was looking to soften the stock feel a bit as I find it a softer boot makes it easier to feel the board edges and initiate turns. I got a pair of Arnaud's springs last season but I was intimidated of cutting away plastic. So I bought the "NT Thermoflex Liner" from BOL. Fit them myself w/ no probs. Had them out today and it has softened the boot about 25% or so. Now it is a perfect freecarve boot and a custom fitted liner. I also tried my custom foam injection molded liners that I had made for my old pair of Stratos boots (the softer model which is no longer sold in the US, blue in color) which are much stiffer than the stock liner. These made the boots about 30% stiffer than the stock liner. So if you really want to fine tune your boot stiffness for the conditions/board you are riding, different liners can make quite an impact. Sure beats carrying several pairs of boots around. And BTW, I also upgraded the stock powerstrap to a Booster strap. The stock one doesn't deserve to be on the boot and should be thrown away. Waaay more adjustablity of the top cuff area and a more progressive feel. Carve on. ;)
