  1. I don't have any pictures - the164 was the Women's team board - the two 160's I have are different boards - one is narrow torsionally firm maybe 18 1/2 - the second is 19 1/2 I think with more camber and not as firm torsionally.
  2. I have 4 used Oxygen snowboards I'd like to sell. 1) 172 Proton - this board is like new - has about 4 days on it - zero damage. Bottom, edges and top are excellent. 2) 168 Proton - this board has LOTS of days on it - bottom and edges are in very good condition, top cosmetics also. 3) 160 Limited edition Proton - board has some days on it - not sure how many - and is in very good condition. 4) 160 Proton - board has a few days on it and is in very good condition all over. I'm selling all as my hip is shot. I'm looking for a fair reasonable price. I'm located at Hunter, NY - very close to the mountain. If you are close by and want to have a look email me at reenpf@yahoo.com. I also have 2 sets of Burton plate bindings with new bails and a pair of Burton Reactor boots size 8 1/2 with LOTS of days on them. Again I'm not looking for big bucks - I just want this stuff out on the mountain where it belongs - not in the garage - any sensible offer accepted.
  3. great to see pics like that, it shows so much. Just a small thought- it's cool to get both hands on the snow occassionally but my concern is that it may hinder "good" technique by programming bending at the waist, instead I would think that reaching for the snow with the outside hand and keeping the inside hand off the snow might help more with angulation from the hips. Just a thought.
  4. This is just a guess on my part, but I think the greatest stress on a carving board is just behind the rear binding and in front of the front binding. I wonder if the triaxial cloth is getting micro-shatters in that area. On my protons I think the boards are giving out just behind the rear binding and then it's time for me to dump them.
  5. I've gone through about 4 Oxygen protons so far, getting about 60 days out of each one before they break down. What I've noticed is that they carve really good for roughly 60 days of riding and then the tail doesn't hold the carve as well. After that the boards start to get spooky as I'll be carving a turn across the fall line and the tail will start to drift downhill a bit - I loose some forward speed and as I change edges I have caught the tail of the new edge and gotten thrown down strongly. Also they loose their rebound at about this time. Tried giving them a super tune- doesn't help. Guess that's about all the life they have in them.
  6. If you look close you'll see all the world cup racers on atomics are riding sandwich construction skiis but the atomic race skiis sold in shops are cap construction. form your own conclusion. I've worn out 3 oxygen proton slalom boards and one gs proton board. I really like them a lot. They're the best commercial raceboards I've ridden but I find the core breaks down after about 60 days of riding, and now that they're not available in the U S (because atomic usa won't bring them in, claim "they don't sell") , dont know what I'll do when my new 172 wears out.(got it off e-bay) Awhile back I thought about contacting Fin and asking him to look into bring some into the country but never got around to it.
  7. Prentice- talk about a fast reply, see you guys this weekend.
  8. Thought I'd share my excitement. I've been riding for about 14 years now but the last two seasons have been a problem for me as I've been having knee and back problems. I thought Father Time had finally caught up with me (I'm 63) but fortunately (hopefully) I've still got more gas in my tank. What happened was I was getting a lot of pain in my knees after riding and sometimes during riding my lower back would go into spasm. So this season I put the skiis back on for the first time in years. My goal was to just slide my turns and take it easy (beats watching tv). Recently I took a couple of runs with one of the psia examiners at our ski school and he said I was starting my ski turns with adequate edge angle but after the fall line I was dialing in too much edge angle and overloading the ski and my joints. I thought about it and for some unknown reason put my snowboard back on the next day out. After about 3 runs my back started acting up again so I decided to try to finesse my turns and SLOWLY roll onto an adequate edge angle. It seemed to work. I kept at it , and after a bit I was getting all the way over again but more subtly. Well I stayed out for much longer than usual, had a great time- the back spasm disappeared and tonight my knees and back are feeling pretty damn good.- So- I've thought about this and I've come to the conclusion that my problem was that I was DIVING into my turns, loading up my joints very quickly, and that translates into IMPACT which is a big no- no when you get older. MY boards (Oxygen protons) have excellent holding power so in the past I've been able to just drop to the deck at speed and they would hold. Early on I was riding a 160 and making fast hard edge changes- good for the ego but bad for the knees. When the knee pain started a few years ago I moved up to a 168 to make fewer rapid edge changes but I was still diving into my turns, Now I'm on a 172 proton and I believe (hope?) that I will be able to keep riding if I can discipline myself to be more subtle in rolling (slowly) on to a high edge and not stay down for a long time in a loaded static position, but to extend back up sooner and ride with more rythm(?) instead of a bent for hell style. So why am I writing this? Two reasons a) hoping it will help me get more subtle so I can keep riding b) hoping the info will be helpful to others (I KNOW I'm not the only aging nut out there - Regards to all- keep riding !
  9. Had - I'll be there all three days - will you be raffeling off any of your Doneks' ? HA HA - looking forward to it - Regards - Pat Reen
  10. I have a new 160 cm oxygen slalom [still in plastic] limited production 18 cm wide board. Interested in swap?
  11. Could you describe topsheet cosmetics, year of board? thanks
  12. I'm looking at a 172 proton it's mostly blue with some yellow -anyone know how old it is? I have two dark red ones, slightly different from each other #1 - 2000/2001 #2 - 2001-2002 I think- can't remember. Anyone know if the blue/yellow is older or more recent? Any help appreciated. It's 40 degrees and raining - base is getting really thin - waiting for winter to arrive - needing packed powder well groomed and blue skies- send soon - greatly appreciated!!
  13. Jeff - I'm also at Windham - I have some slalom boards for sale - I work at snowboard school there or you can call me at 263 5084 (hunter)
  14. Kent - the earlier two have the grey tops that appear to show the carbon and glass through the topsheet, the later two are black and gold and all say "limited" again these are 18 cm wide rather than 20 cm like the protons. If you are interested call me in the evenings, NY time 518-263-5084
  15. For myself- lazy as I am but I like sharp edges- I only tune from the side - When I get a new board I check the bottom and if it's reasonably flat I let it be- what I don't want is a bottom that's edge high - if it's flat I will give it the tiniest bit of edge relief -no real bevel on the bottom- from then on I only tune from the side - on my proton GS i go for 89 degrees on the side - I could go more for more bite but then the tune doesn't last as long - everything's a compromise. I then ride the board and gently detune the ends if necessary. I ride on eastern machine made snow and this is what has worked for me over time. Since I don't race I wax with parafin- cheap and good enough for me. Now where do I get cartilage refills?
  16. I'm in Hunter, NY- I work at Windham MT. - you can reach me at 518- 263-5084- evenings.
  17. would love to watch any races on tv - I have satellite tv - anyone know if there are any races scheduled and what channel? - Thanks in advance
  18. I have 4- 160 cm. oxygen slalom boards I'm gonna have to part with - I've developed kneemonia so I'm sticking with G.S. style. - These boards are 18 cm. wide unlike the proton 20 cm. 160 slalom - they were limited production boards that I believe were only available in Europe - I got someone at Atomic to bring them in for me - black sintered base , torsionally firm, longitudinally medium. Two of them have a bunch of days on them but the bases are still excellent and the edges have plenty of metal left. One of them has a few days on it and is fairly new , and one is new still in wrapper. I'm looking for a 172 cm. Oxygen Proton for myself
  19. Continental will never see my face again -they hit me for $100 for my surfboard bag-each way- On Lacsa I only get charged $25 - and sometimes that's one way!
