The first mention of "freeride" was when Bruce said Mark Fawcett wanted a new "freeride" board.
This one?

good old single sidecut 12.5m SCR
Spoke to Marcel about this when ordering mine, it's not actually a single sidecut, just the variations are more subtle.

Riser plates, groomers-only board, stiff bindings, forward angles, surely the stiffest "softboots" he could find and then modified
Welcome to Japan.
A lot of these guys/girls ride both hard / softboots btw.

Fantastic video. One of the best I've seen. Skilful and smooth.

@Workmans sorry you lost me at goofy. Just kidding.
My experience with Deeluxe could be summed up with the term "heel lift". No amount of work fixed it for me. Had more luck in UPZ, but my foot seems to fit perfectly in Mountain Slope boots with Zipfit liners + custom footbeds. Trip to a bootfitter was necessary.
If you get the chance, it may be worth trying on another boot.

Oh sorry, that pic was from Ivan.
Right, well I've got one sitting at home I'm yet to use. 3 or so months to go!

@Jack M on that note, did you end up riding the super h much? Any feedback?

Wait... you guys sharpen the base bevel more than once?
Nope. After a base grind, sure.

When I had UPZ RC10, I used the UPZ Power Strap SHOXXTER Plus straps (which have a ratchet instead of buckle) for a short period of time. But I found them too locked for a top strap so I gave them to my friend in Japan who wanted a set.
Then I switched to a WC Booster, which was great, but I ended up giving that away too because I switched to a G-Style top strap, which I prefer because it offers the same little bit of give the Booster does, but I can unbuckle it on the lift.
Now on my carve boots I run a G-Style top strap and on my softer all mountain boots I run an Intermediate Booster.

0deg base edge angles can be super catchy when riding flat. Many years ago on my old Coiler, it caught me out a few times before I realised what was happening.
If you want it 'sharper', you can just increase the side angle.

@SunSurferthanks for that, going to grab a pair of vpd air knees for the next trip. It is difficult to get accounts of first hand experiences- appreciate it.
I'm using a poc upper body armour which has incorporated spine, shoulder and elbow protection. Chest, too, but I remove that when riding. It stays in place really well and doubles up as warmth retention.

I have my MTB knee pads, POC Air VPD. Warm and flexible, but don't have the wrap around 7mm neoprene the Rehbands have. Superb impact protection instead.
What do you think of the airs, Alan? Comfort, staying put ability, general mobility while wearing them?
I've been oogling those for years to put over the top of my sleeves for that "just in case" moment and since my knees are a bit mmm less than in ideal condition one might say.
I saw the vpd air leg with some minimal knee protection. Might check those out- should offer more freedom of movement than pads for my use case.
I have a set of g form pads I put over the top a few times but they ended feeling too restrictive so ditched that idea.

I love the Rehband 7051 for warmth and some support. I'm thankful I have them in times where I kneel on the snow for whatever reason, also.
HOT TIP: wear them over your tights.

I have severed my left ACL twice resulting in 2 x reconstruction. I now have grade 3 cartilage degradation issues in both knees due to my previous life as a track sprinter. I'm now at a point where I'm again squatting 100kg, power clean 90kg, hiked up and down 1500m vert in a day a couple of times. The leg and core strength definitely helps and the power cleans give excellent amount of impact absorption capability in a controlled environment, which transfers over into everyday life where you may encounter a large impact.
The thing that helped me most was changing my walking (moving) biomechanics. I wear minimal style shoes with zero drop from heel to toe exclusively now. Big toe box in all my shoes. Toe socks only. Have spent a lot of time strengthening my feet. Now I absorb the impact with my feet as possible to minimise the transfer into my knees.
I also wear SBD knee sleeves in the gym and Rehband 7051 while snowboarding. They help.
That's my experience, it may or may not be relevant to you.
Oh I just noticed I have the exact same shoes as the praying lunge dude in the thumbnail of that video is wearing. The blue ones.

no real solution for amateurs
Hm, I remember when we filmed some stuff for my mate's gym, we just set the recording frame rate to be a multiple of the electricity frequency in my country which is 50hz and it fixed it. Not sure if that will work for you or not though.

The problem is the frame rate in relation to the flickering of the artificial lights
Iirc you can fix this in settings, no?

However a perfectly kitted and fitted pair of UPZs or Deeluxes can be just as good.
Yes, I should have said that my experience is subjective to me and my foot. Good point, a perfectly fitted boot for a particular foot is a perfectly fitted boot.

@O.othey're the most comfy boot with the best heel hold that I've used (between Deeluxe, UPZ and Mountain Slope). They are perfect for carving and I'm sure all here would agree.
I liked them so much, I got a softer pair for my all mountain ride.

I like it. Adds the technical aspect you find in bmx and mx racing. The faster your speed is at the end, the higher chance you have to pull away. What I disliked the most was when they had humongous consecutive jumps for a few years.
I think baumgartner's knees were basically above his head when he sucked them up over the jump to make that pass. That was damn impressive.
