  1. Watching some of the ski jumping this week and reading that the IOC is considering adding Slopestyle Snowboard as an Olympic event got me thinking about what other snowboard events might work.

We already have a thread going on snowboard downhill but what about snowboard jumping?

I see a 220 wide board with some special flex binding so you can lean way forward and fly that thing.

Of course someone would just have to throw a back flip into the mix

  2. A question for all you long board enthusiasts out there. I have been having a great time on my Prior 4WD 174 and Hot Blast 178. Making large leaps in carving ability this season. I just picked up a bad ass looking Tropical Tube 185 with a 16 meter SCR to fool around with.

Any advice on changing technique for a board of this length and SCR?

Besides the obvious one of initiate my turns well before the trees :)

Someone told me to be "patient" with longer boards.

Why do you like a longer board over a shorter board?

  3. As a long time whitewater kayaker I was puzzled when I took up snowboarding and noticed many skiers and boarders who do not wear helmets.

I would NEVER kayak down a Class 4 river without my helmet and I never had any friends ever paddle without a helmet.

Trees you might be able to miss on the slopes but what about the guy bombing down the hill who hits you? :smashfrea

    A nice fitting helmet-$80

    Avoiding a serious concussion-Priceless!

  4. I hear you.

I have almost 30 days of use with my stock Deeluxe T700 liners from 08/09 model year and they are definitely not near as tight. So far I have gardually tightened all of my buckles and am now at the tightest settings for all of them and am okay...

I did just purchase those shim foam inserts that go infront of your shin from Tognar but have not yet used them. They also have smaller pieces to padd out the ankles. A good ski shop should also have options like this.

Lots of other threads on here about higher quality and $$ liners. I plan to treat myself once I have packed these out too much.

  5. Never try and put a price on your outdoor recreation time. Life is short and we all need an outlet to maintain our health and sanity.

In addition to snowboarding I snowshoe, backpack, whitewater kayak, sea kayak, trail run, mountain bike, and a few other more occasional things like rock climbing.

Sure a carving setup is not cheap, but what is the value of doing perfect screaming arcs down the mountain side? :biggthump

  6. Best is that when you meet your future wife you were already an active snowboarder because then she thinks that buying/selling boards and wanting to go every week is normal. :)

My wife and I met thru internet dating and our very first date was to go snowboarding together. :1luvu:

  7. I learned how to carve on the 4WD 174 and love it at 185 pounds and same height as you. It works well on open slopes and in the crowds.

That said I like BlueB's advice on the wide WCRM 173. That board is on my list to try out!

You are big enough to get a 179 to turn without too much trouble, unless you are in some tight crowds.

  8. I never usually drink and then ride, however just last night I was with a supplier on the mountain and he was buying dinner which included two beers. I was ripping it after dinner all the way until 9:30. I wasn't as conservative diving into my turns and almost lost a few.

Almost does not count in carving!
