  1. If you care to reread my posts I'm not claiming there is no math or engineering involved in board making .I'm saying i hope the emphasis is on the riding. For you to say i am trying to make someone look like an ignoramous sir is personally distastfull I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mr Vasarva and his ability to design and build snowboards. I ride a coiler and although it is not a custom board i would recommend one to all. Bruce Varsava is generous to a fault with his time , he has shown demonstrated and instructed kids on our local team. As well as responded to my requests for info on a used board. As far as my attempts at engineering I'm sorry if i never met you. Did you attend the same school as i? If you would care to reread DR. Varsavas' posts you will see that he does in fact use very simplistic layout techniques that are in fact extremely effective. As for your retort that he uses titinal I am aware of that fact and that he has very sofisticated protocal for its use.The fact that this thread generates such a response from you is interesting in itself but i also hope it also hasn't offended others i'm a big buy i can take it but i wish no disrespect to others.
  2. A single camber board will pressure the nose of the board as it is loaded carving a turn. Will a double camber board create a rocker effect on the nose since the flattening of the camber is acting as if on two fulcrum points causing the nose to rise???
  3. Don't worry about the sport the engineers and math profs will nevere get the upper hand as long as builders like bruce varsava has some mig wire and glue were all in good hands. refer to (20mscr post) I'd worry about people sitting here and talking about it rather than just doing it !!!!
  4. having fun on that 186 coiler 2x4 thanks Ernie:biggthump
  5. Thank you Bruce for clearing the air on your methodology i'm relieved that you don't spend all your time on solving complex formulas at the dusty chalk board but spread the fun around by having others involved in true on hill engineering.:D
  6. If i were Bruce Varsava i'd save his info for his masters thesis i think if he can illicit this much debate on this forum a room full of engineering profs.would wet themselves with what he had to tell them! Crank out those boards and keep them guessing .
  7. the air is -12 c looks like we might get another week of riding before last run I'f bruce v would like to answer the question of the air in his shop does it tend to be thicker with sawdust or chalk from the blackboards covered in math homework ? looking forward to all the scientists taking over the lead in snowboard design. Is a single radii board now as passe as double camber?
  8. If every snowboard ever built was based on sound engineering and a complete text of all relevant math formulas i"m sure Bruce and others of his unique skill wouldn't have time to test and ride the boards being built today.I've never seen his shop but i have a wonderful impression in my mind what his and others shops look like and if they are like a sterile operating room with walls covered in math formulas i don't think i could enjoy riding any board thinking i have condemned the man to that fate! Correct me if I'm wrong but my impression is he takes an idea builds it improves on it enjoys it and moves on.If the act of snowboarding is only a series of math formulas repeated by each change of direction then I'd say find a new sport. Corey dyck is right someone is breathing some funny air. I've always though that the pursuit of a new idea was worthy of the scrutiny of some but the respect of all. It's not about the math it's about the fun !
  9. Thanks for the info just finished making up a couple of short tethers.Good to go as soon as pants return from cleaners ! Bruce told me the origin of the boards name its becoming clearer every outing .
  10. I believe my tether strap twisted around my leg and lifted the bale. Going to change to a small short tight leash
  11. Funny feeling on heel side turn i look down front toe bale is open down i go left leg spinning with the 186 coiler spinning like a chopper blade luckily my body kept up with the rotations as well. That sick slow motion feeling slowly leaves my body.I have survived my worst snowboarding fear. Now the big question is anyone working on releasable bindings?? ie; if one opens both open. Never affected my nerve on skis as the fear of windmilling on one ski was moderated by the knowledge that another impact would release the final ski. Not the case with a snowboard almost as long and twice the weight. I was totally in tune with each rotation waiting for that final crunch!! Luckily it didn't happen. Tylenol is my friend! i'm very pleased my hip, knee and ankle have survived the short hellicopter flight. Any other bombers have a similar flight ??
  12. I used to think the parliamentry system came through in times of trouble but it seems even under present circumstances to be totally reliant on politicians who have the guts to do what they know is right, so far few have shown that they are up for the challenge They talk and talk but when the rubber hits the road they still prove themselves to be mere politicians. Hope one or two will reveal themselves as mortals some day soon.
  13. Rust on edges will result in rust creeping around the edge to under base. Oil is good but a film of petroleum jelly will provide a better film ,wax the base well then apply jelly to bottom and edge of metal. If the board is dry when applied you will never see rust even if your water pipes are dripping from condensation this summer.Same can be said for any minor nicks on metal boards, oxydation can start on exposed bruises along the side too:smashfrea so apply petrolium jelly to those as well.
  14. Same pork barreling is going on with canadian budget looks like those unemployed mortgage bundlers have found a new void to fill. I'm really wondering if any political party has the public good as their moral compass ??
  15. Reply to carverchick response to "what if the front wheel falls of canoe" riddle The final verse is "nothing icecream has no bones".Haven't heard that riddle for more years than I would like to admit.

  17. The most obvious and simplest solution to a board sliding away while trying to hook up is a little friction.I stole this from a friend who borrowed it from another. It's so simple I should charge for it ? Don't laugh Mark! Stand on your mitt or glove . That's it ! Finished hooking up hop off, grab the glove and you are good to go . No need to look like a kid in soft boots dragging your soggy butt around because of wet spring conditions. Look professional your a hard booter now!
  18. I hope everyone has a voice. If thing keep up we will each be able to buy a radio station and flog our message .Hard boots and coilers for all. Give away your voice and you've given away too much.

To skatha and dingbat funny how that worked out i'm not the moderator . you fail to get my point. In Canada i don't have the rite to have a gun I have to ask the gov't permission pretty sad Eh!! wish i lived where you do . By:AR15firin:AR15firin birth rite i could be packing while walking on snowshoes or cutoff skis get the point now???
  21. I would say go for it! you will never hurt this board, while it is older it will serve you well on crowded slopes.I have one, as well as a double cambered hooger booger a very interesting ride and a technology i'm sure will be revisited at some time .The same way tinkler has reinvented the once famous kildie flex .Might want to make an offer but if shipping in included ???

In canada we have "royal commissions" they take longer cost more and do less because we don't have the right to carry guns.

They had to walk without their snowshoes .Probably still walking around shaking their heads. Do you thing they would come back to buy a membership and support this place so I can keep carving ?My son can't wait to blow this pop stand and get out to the rockies where his brother and sister are.
  25. SWriverstone; Thanks for the post i'm trying to be one of the 20 % as i seem to have an inherent dislike for authority types a post like yours is something i can relate to ,self teaching is good ! why does everthing have to be so complicated . It's also nice to have another point of view available to all on a forum like bomber. As a newbie to it I still have a thin skin but if i keep skidding it will thicken up:biggthump.
