  1. Question: On the Bomber Boiler Plate 4mm Lite there are 4 mounting holes for the side bosses at each end. How far apart are the outermost holes from each other? Can't find the info on the Bomber site. All the Tech material relates to the Mk 1 version, including the Mk 1 version of the Wunderbar.
  2. http://www.summitexpressionsession.com/schedule/ Just the dates on the tabs haven't been updated yet. Will we see any superheroes actually carving?
  3. I think of that as a "grace" effect. Makes it look like you've got all the time in the world. The wide angle lens on the camera adds to the impression by giving you a large background to move against.PS: to embed the video just paste in the URL. The forum app will automatically do the rest. No need to make it a "link".
  4. Some well known names are giving it a try, including both names well known on Bomber and a 2-time Olympic Gold medallist in snowboarding. NASTAR takes a slightly different set of skills than free carving, or boardercross, with fast times requiring clean carves, a great line through the gates and not ever hitting the brakes. Looking forward to my first runs in a couple of weeks time.
  5. So, when you have near ideal protoplasm learners, what are the essential points you (Lowell/Fin) tell them that allows them to make that much progress that quickly?
  6. Since I bought one of these I've really not stressed about it too much. http://bubbleball.us/ ;)
  7. I've got an Ogasaka MX Limited 154cm advertised in the For Sale section at present. I will it bring to SES if the buyer is also coming, so the sale would be agreed ahead of time, not at SES. That pretty much gets rid of the shipping costs from New Zealand for a buyer! I wasn't planning on bringing it otherwise, too many other boards want to come, and I need to watch the weight allowance.
  8. SOLD - Dec 2015 -------------------------- Price delivered to SES 2015 US$150, cash. I'm leaving home in NZ for SES on Thursday 29th January 2015. Have a work related conference in Snowmass the week before SES. It's a hard life but someone's got to do it! ------------------------------------------------------------- From Ogasaka website , 2006-07 (translated Chrome) http://www.ogasaka-snowboard.com/snowboard/snowboard2006-07-ver2.html MX-Limited \ 97,650 yen (tax included) Size 154cm Co.Length 134cm Nose W. 23.8cm Waist W. 18.8cm Tail W. 23.8cm Radius (m) 8.57m Setback 0cm Stance 40-48cm Concept: Essence of Alpine board, flagship model that came to put the latest technology actively to pursue the true carving. EVC plates are using the race board has excellent vibration absorption at high speed, leading to stability of the board. Board shape of the tapered 0 firmly Kireagaru not shed the edge even in the second half turn. -------------------------------- Board is in New Zealand. Photos on Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xxz3ubbgryhw3an/AACVnFecbyxh6ErpFs8bJMHYa?dl=0 Bought second hand on TradeMe in NZ, advertised as a 160cm, but too short/soft for me (182cm and 80kg). I've not ridden this board. Some minor topsheet damage from previous owner including crimp in front top edge (see photos) Some minor scratches and pitting in base, storage wax on board in photos. The crazed appearance in the rear part of the board topsheet is part of the printed topsheet pattern. Board weight 3.2 kg Price in NZ: NZ$150 Shipping costs to be paid by buyer. I got an estimate for freight NZ to Australia at over NZ$100. I'm coming to SES 2015. It could be in my board bag. I'd like to see this underneath someone who could appreciate it!
  9. Thanks Phil. The raw video came from a boarder who was intrigued by the alpine setup and followed me down the hill. He was happy to shoot another run. He was hand holding his GoPro camera, hence the glove in the left hand corner. I agree about video being better for the subject being closer which is harder to achieve with a very wide angle lens. I used a fixed zoom (1.05) in Deshaker pass 2 with some extrapolated colours edge compensation to remove the jiggly borders that Deshaker otherwise produces.
  10. Randy, that's setting a nice baseline for the season, giving the rest of us someone to aim at!
  11. Bump. Initial post now contains info about how to embed video with the IP Board Forum. Original video re-edited, stabilised, and output optimised for YouTube using GoPro Studio and VirtualDub/Deshaker, using the Cineform codec (all freeware).
  12. Just found out how to do this. When writing your post, copy and paste the URL for the video directly into the post. IP Board will then automatically detect and embed the video for most video sites. DO NOT format it as a link because then you just get a link, not the embed.
  13. Hey man, I pimped my ride! Now I just need to slouch down, and carve wearing a hoodie! I don't know yet if the final new SunSurfer axle units will be lighter than Fin's, but they will be lower. The axles are essentially at the end of the plate, which allows a lower plate without the plate impinging on the axle housings as the board bends in the carve. I can't get too much lower without the middle of the plate contacting the board due to the camber. The outer 2 extra holes are for the Bomber axle units. The inner set of new holes (9cm x 2cm rectangle corners) are for the SunSurfer system.
  14. BBP 4mm with a few extra holes. Ah well, it was already past its' 1 year warranty! Call it UPM+, matching up with the extended UPM insert packs I got Bruce to put into a Coiler NSR in 2012 (and have never got round to utilising till now) and a similar set I've recently put into my current experimenting board, a Coiler AM 177. The max inter-axle distances, in the "at rest" position, now go to just over 71cm on the Bomber mechanical setup on the AM, and the NSR goes out to 73.5cm, with the plate top surface 22mm above the board at the point the axles are, using my latest design mechanicals. Both are coming with me to SES 2015.
  15. Looks like fun! Like you I recently got a GoPro, upgrading from my old Contour HD1080P. Spent a few nights working out how to best use GoPro Studio and the various file types I have. GoPro Studio is a great free editor! - especially because the Cineform codec it uses is virtually lossless while allowing relatively quick editing. It has a couple of other virtues though you may not be aware of. One of the best video stabilisers out there is the Deshaker plug-in for Virtualdub (also freeware!). Virtualdub (freeware!) primarily handles .avi format video. Go Pro Studio first converts .mov and .mp4 files to .avi via the Cineform codec. These files can now be handled straight away by Virtualdub without having to resort to a frame feeder like AVISynth. Go Pro have also made the Cineform codec available free Link: http://cineform.com/gopro-cineform-decoder and you'll also need the rendervfw.exe file Link: http://gopro.com/support/articles/unable-to-encode-into-the-gopro-cineform-coded-with-3rd-party-applications NB: Make sure you put the rendervfw.exe file in the correct Tools directory and so you can now output stabilised video from Virtualdub using the Cineform codec. This allows you to plug the stabilised video directly back into GoPro Studio for further editing. And the great thing is, all these programs are free, and work really well. The choice of pre-formatted outputs in GP Studio do a good job of preserving quality while reducing file sizes, while the Archive .avi allows you to view the final result in quality I can't tell from the original file from the camera. If you get really into it you may want to use DubMan (free!) to batch process files through Virtualdub Deshaker. Then you can snowboard for a few hours while your computer deshakes the previous days footage. If your computer can handle it the 64-bit version of VDub & Deshaker is substantially quicker than the 32-bit versions(surprise, surprise). Both co-exist side by side on my computer. However, AVISynth isn't yet able to feed frames to the 64-bit VDub, so I'm using the 32-bit version to convert my .m2ts files from my Sony DSLR to .avi, before I deshake them and then output them using the Cineform codec so I can then edit them in GP Studio. Go Pro Studio will happily meld together the resulting .avi files of Full HD 50fps video from my Sony and Full HD 60 fps video from the Hero camera, outputting at 50fps. Even if you don't have a GoPro, GoPro Studio is available free and is worth a look.
  16. No experience with the setup you propose. I'd toyed with the idea though but decided the potential problems were too difficult to solve. I'd concerned about how close my head was going to get to the snow with every lay down turn and that one end of the pole is practically certain to be in the almost semi circle arc that will be close to the ground and potential damage. There's a 50% chance that's going to be the camera. If you touch down with too much force the magnet allows the rig to separate from the helmet. With each separation comes a trudge back up the hill to collect the camera and pole. Love you to prove me wrong.

I see BOLers Pat Moore and Paul Scrutton amongst the names. Any other BOLers?
  18. Looking forward to meeting you in person, and catching up with a whole lot of people I haven't seen for a couple of years. Not sure if Fin & Michelle are running a mentor program this year for people who are there for their first time.
  19. Absolutely agree with John E. If you're going to SES, you've got to go to the banquet. And then there's the multi prize raffle snowboarding gear give-away. 2012, my first SES, I ended the night with a new Kessler of my choice! Kessler freighted it to me in New Zealand at their cost. In the past Coiler and Donek have also had custom built boards as prizes. And there has been lots of other brilliant stuff.
  20. 55. Carving is part of what will get me on my bike in about 15 minutes time and off for 40+km and a few hills. Maintenance is the key to making a body last a lifetime, especially when spare parts are hard to get! Alpine is snowboarding for grown ups!
  21. Nice design solution to get the plate between the axles, rather than above. When the plate is in use and the board is bending, do you get contact/leverage between the outer edges of the base and plate metal parts, especially at the sliding end? How much wear do you get with essentially unlubricated steel on steel bearings?
